I've been on Mac at home ever since my Mac plus back in the 1980s.
Most places I've worked were PC/Windows. I actually worked at one place that was Unix/Solaris.
However, I never had a serious difficulty transferring data between work and home or vice versa when I needed it. In the early days you needed to resort to a trick or two but even that is no longer necessary nowadays. This incompatibility thing is overstated IMHO.
I'm also part of a publishing setup which is a mix between a hobby and a second job, and for that Mac has clear advantages which is why I've never seriously considered switching to anything else. Most authors who write for us do so on Windows and I never received a file I wasn't able to use as intended - and some of them use very curious editors. It's not all 100% MS Word out there.

I use both. Windows at my office and Mac for anything else that is fun. Better quality for me is evident in terms of speeds, screen resolution (retina for Mac), fewer problems with adware and potential viruses, and waaay less crashes and frozen screens

I have a very first gen intel macbook pro from 2006 that is still running very well without any major problem. I have always had the fans running on at least 4000rpm since day 1 because of the overheat problem (thats another story though) and this laptop hasnt failed me once.

I have worked on both - have one each at home.
I have now become a firm believer of Steve Jobs - especially his 'reality distortion field'
Stay with what you are comfortable with - both systems are a bit too different, and the 'migration' may be as painful as the one when we landed here from our home countries.

Get the Mac.
As long as it comes with free Birkenstocks.
You're allowed to dress normally with a PC, however.

Staggered along from Windows 3.1 to Vista and finally gave in and bought something sensible.
If you do change to a Mac be aware that you will likely need new software...

But mine had been the main computer until 1 year ago. I used it heavily every day for school work, watching movies, playing GTA San Andreas!!! (on bootcamp), some android development.

PC is drab and dull compared to a mac. Have a look at the iMac 27 Retina 5K and you will see why its worth it.

Here we go, PC fanboys vs Mac fanboys.
In general, computer geeks prefer PC because they want full control over their machine and max out the specs.
For normal users like myself, switching to mac was the best decision ever. Finally a computer that can run 24/7 for years without a single issue, with smart solutions such as time machine for backup and the fact that you can plug in any device and it just works.
People should not have to download drivers in 2014! People shouldn't even have to know drivers exist!
I got so sick of having to do computer support over the phone with my mother and her crap PC so I bought her a mac - she has never been happier.
Oh and the whole "mac users are smug and macs are over priced" is so 1999. A macbook is actually quite affordable given its quality and the new retina imac is a steal, the screen alone would cost more than the entire computer if you bought it separately.

macs are not overpriced.but the only mac now worth considering is with retina. anything else is a compromise. | Quote: | | | | | Here we go, PC fanboys vs Mac fanboys.

not true. I had a mac from 2001 . Then went on to windows simply for a speed kick. And also the screen resolution. The screen resolution with the iMac 21 inch is really bad. Its now changed with the iMac retina. But only in 27 inch. Hopefully they bring it for the 21 inch and cut the prices as well. | Quote: | | | | | "once you've had mac, you'll never go back" | | | | | |
