reboot into recovery, wipe cache. And keep it charged!
Is that for me? How do I reboot into recovery mode?

My Galaxy S4 finally upgraded to 5.0.1 this week. Looks a bit nicer, but not noticed any dramatic improvement in battery life or peformance and it has an annoying habit of spontaneously shutting down at <10% battery life and gets stuck into a shut down/restart loop.
It would occaionally shut down spontaneoulsy prior to the upgrade, but at least I could restart it.
If you install CWM (custom recovery) on your SGS4 within CWM you have option wipe battery stats That should increase battery charge circle. For example my old SGS3 hold battery for one day (from morning to evening) with regular use of wifi, text, calls... After wiping bat stats phone hold half a day more!

@PaddyG turn phone off, press vol down +home + power button until phone goes to recovery

Re: Android 5.0

@Paddy - you have the instructions to get into recovery above. You have to power down first.

If you're asking such questions, don't replace recovery but do just wipe cache. That should be an option in the default recovery. Do not factory reset or full wipe!!

Re: Android 5.0

I am using Android 5 now for a while on my Nexus 7 tablet and can only say that I am pretty disappointed. The tablet is now just slow and unstable.
It also had some update afterwards but that didn't make it much better.
You expect the software to run at least on a Google product with no issues.

Anyway, next tablet will be Windows or Apple.

Re: Android 5.0

everyone says the original N7 is a dog with Lollipop. I'd get the image for KitKat and revert back to that.

I love Lollipop, buttery!

Re: Android 5.0

Original N7 has TRIM issues and was slow as hell after some use. OS version really doesn't help. N7 2013 was much better but it's still 2 years old so I would cut it some slack. Maybe try and manage storage, apps, and general cache deletes and see if that helps.

Xperia Z3, Z2 tablet, and my gf's Z3 compact are all flying with the 5.0 update.

Now all Google has to do is fix the damn smart lock home location bug in Play Services 7.0 and I'm a happy camper

Re: Android 5.0

maybe down to a bug in google play services keeping the device awake?

I've used PrivacyGuard to stop it waking the phone - but I am running Cyanogen OS 12.

Hmm, reboot into recovery mode and now it's at the Android logo with "Downloading...do not turn off target!!"

did you hold volume up or down? You're in download mode. You can hold the power and reboot it.

Re: Android 5.0

So what's the latest verdict? .... Is Lollipop still for suckers?

If I have a choice of two generations of the same phone - one with 4.4 Kitkat and the other with 5.0 Lollipop - forgetting other changes in spec., but on OS alone - which should I consider?

There aren't huge differences in spec. or price.

ETA: I think my question may be irrelevant - the Kitkat version is dual SIM (which I require) and the Lollipop appears not to be, having marginally better spec. - so no choice after all.

As I'm currently running on Ice Cream Sandwich, either is an improvement.

However, the Lollipop version seems to be single SIM, so it'll have to be Kitkat for the dual SIM model (although, I think there may be the option to upgrade, but need to check) ...... unless things change in the near future.
