HELP! Cablecom wants to charge me for a receiver box I have already returned.

So several months ago, I moved. I used cablecoms online form to notify them I will change address, and they sent me a letter to say that they do not provide service to that area, so cancelled my account.

So far so good, easiest dealing with cablecom ever! Should have known...

I sent the receiver and modem back with their stickers and thought, finally done with cablecom! Another woohoo moment as I have been unhappy with their customer service and support the whole time.

Imagine my surprise this week to get a letter telling me to return the receiver or I will be charged for it. After almost 8 weeks and moving house, I cannot for the life of me find the post receipt.

Anyone have any idea what I can do?

Their letter points out how useless the box is as I don't have an account with them. I don't even live in an area they provide service too!

It also said complete a post search form at the post office and they and I will be notified of the result. I asked at the post, they have never heard of such a form.

The nice post lady did tell me if I know day and time etc I can go to that post and see if they can trace it which I will try. She also used a variety of colourful phrases to describe her own opinion of cablecom and said no matter what don't pay it, let them come and look for it at your house.

I don't know if cablecom is just being cheeky and thinks anyone they write to in English won't understand or will just go along with it, or why they haven't mentioned the modem that was in the same package... I just haven't got the energy for this just before Christmas!!

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

I hope you have either proof of sending the receiver back or that you requested a confirmation of receiving the box from them when you sent it? Always do that. Doing both is safest.

If you have done one, provide copies of that to Cablecom by registered letter and say that the matter is closed for you. If you have sent the box and requested confirmation of receiving the box hasn't arrived you should have requested it again within a week by registered letter while providing proof of sending.
If you have done neither, maybe the post office can help you trace the box. If they can trace it, send a copy of that to Cablecom by registered letter, request their confirmation of receiving it and say the matter is closed for you.

If they can't trace it and you don't have proof of either sending or receiving proof of Cablecom having received the receiver... maybe someone else has a solution for you.

escalate it at Cablecom. You've used their pre-paid sticker label to send something back so there is a failing on their side.

And lol at them really, I have a spare box in my cellar that just sits there.....their controls are a bit average, I'd say.

Re: HELP! Cablecom wants to charge me for a receiver box I have already returned.

Cablecom is pathetic. I held onto the receipts for the two boxes I sent back when we moved for ages because they refused to confirm in writing that the boxes were received. The customer service person told me if I sent them using their label there should not be a problem.

I sent both back using the Cablecom stickers but I did get a post office receipt.

We cancelled everything when we moved as Cablecom told us that there was no service at our new address. Imagine how surprised we were after clearing up the garden and discovering a Cablecom box on our property with cables running to the house.

Even when Cablecom sent the final invoices they did not confirm receipt of the box. So go back to Cablecom and tell them that they failed to notify you on the final invoice that the box was not returned and you did not keep the postal slip for months.
