Australia to compete in Eurovision 2015

Yeah, I can imagine that Aussie comments on the contest would probably be similar to Terry Wogan's over the years. :p

Are we sure that the BBC didn't mix up Austria and Australia?

Yep, given that the final is being held in Austria this year.

Does that mean that they will change the name of the contest?

Well, not this year but I don't know what they'll do if Australia win it. They say if they do next year's event will be held in an European country anyway.

But to me it's getting too big and stepping outside its stated aims. Eurovision is for European countries. Israel isn't European and neither is Australia. But where do you draw the line that says this country is in Europe and this one next to it isn't?

Haven't watched it for the last few years, because it simply goes on too long and the voting is more and more of a joke.

Simon Cowell of the X Factor is LOLling as the organisers of Eurovision continue to make anodyne the world's premier music competition.

No, it's not.

It's for Eurovision members, which include, since it's inception in 1950, various non-European countries in North Africa and the Middle-East. ;)

Australia is only an associate member, as is the US, so perhaps the US will enter next year. :p

I am watching it because there is nothing else on TV. But, really, the songs are not special !

I never watch TV, but sat myself down for EV because usually it is good fun. THIS is torture...and a bit of a laugh. Don't think America will be feeling left out anymore, if they ever did.

I think... Italy, Spain, then Latvia. :)

As daughter just said "it must hurt to be Britain, they don't even get any votes from their neighbours"

I think it will be close between Russia, Italy, possibly Sweden or Australia.

Poland was impressive and inspiring story but the song was just so...bland

Yes, but this is the one contest you don't want to win (as a country, or, more importantly, a taxpayer). ;)

Congrats, Sweden! :)
I liked Estonia and Italy to be honest.
Somebody should have stopped the idiot who was commenting on SRF...I mean, the show is mediocre enough...:o

This may be the most interesting thing to come out of the competition.

A statement said: "The jury results of FYR Macedonia and Montenegro for the grand final have been excluded after consultation of PricewaterhouseCoopers, the contest's independent voting observer, and upon the decision of the executive supervisor and the chairman of the reference group.
"In both countries, televoting applied for 100%. The exclusion of two juries will be further discussed in the next reference group meeting in June."

Televoting should apply for 100% in all countries, if you ask me. The juries are under some pressure, political or otherwise. Vox populi! .

Re: Australia to compete in Eurovision 2015

If Televoting counted for 100%, Switzerlands top points would have gone to Albania and Serbia.... Vox populi - no thanks!

Oh dear, ahm, this comment is...must refrain.

But seriously: suppose they took 10 and 12 points from CH and the song was bad. At the end of the day, they couldn't have gone too far. You must have a pretty "good"/likeable song to get at least 4-5 points from everyone, and that makes the difference at the end of voting. Mathematically. ;)
