Re: Cold called by Microsoft

We are being stalked by the 'windows' company...
They got my son on the phone, when I was not yet home.

My kids are not so familiar with indian accents...
My son freaked out when I pressed the doorbell...the woman told her she just wanted to 'look through the windows'...he though she could see him in the house! He was seriously scared...

Unfortunately, it seems they are now calling us many times a week...I think in the hope that they get my kids again and suck them in...

Ring ring...this is the windows company..
Cue Indian accent "oh yes madam, we have many windows...and they need a really good clean.."

There was an article in today's Corriere del Ticino about the resurrection of this scam...

http://www.cdt.ch/ticino/cronaca/125...in-ticino.html
Took their time this scam resurrected in switzerland in force about 5 years ago. Entire family has been briefed on how to string these guys along and keep them online as long as possible before eventually telling them to f... Off

Re: Cold called by Microsoft

I'm getting to be an expert at these calls. They usually ring around lunchtime and I've taken about 15 - 20 in the last 2 years. I'm not usually in during the day, so who knows how often they've actually called.

My usual reply is, "I'm so glad you've called, I'm having some real problems with my computer. Could you just hang on while I fetch it?"

They hold the line for ages!

I've had several of these calls. Then I put the number in my blocked calls list. Haven't had any since. Or at least, they've gone into my black hole of rejected calls.

Re: Cold called by Microsoft

Had a bunch of these calls. A few months ago I played along for about 10 minutes then told him that my computer said there was an asshole on the line.

You should have heard the guy swearing at the other end of the phone. It was priceless, this Indian voice, high pitched:

"You f**k yourself you motherf**ker".

Still makes me laugh.

I must have had the same guy call a couple of weeks ago. He used exactly the same language.

I used to pass the phone to my kids to talk to them but I think the callers are getting so many people winding them up now that it's getting a bit offensive.

Re: Cold called by Microsoft

LOL get these calls regularly but usually we are not home, last week i was home early and one of them fellows from Microsoft called. I had nothing better to do as i was waiting for a delivery so i thought I would mess him around a bit, he wanted me to do some stuff on my computer but i made out that the connection was very bad and had him spell each step out word for word, letter by letter...after about 15 minutes my delivery arrived and i told him that i knew it was a scam and was messing him around, and then hung up before he could say anything...

It felt good and i don't regret those 15 minutes

This what I do. Keep them waiting for 10 minutes while I make a coffee. Then I say I have to call them back so can I have their number? Then the get angry! Job done.

I know, right? I have never got one of these calls and sounds like they could be potentially funny...

Yeah, I've not met a lot of British Mogles. Seems Swiss to me though - Google it and the first thing that comes up is a bunch of pictures of ski slopes.

Re: Cold called by Microsoft

Strange things is, they tried again this morning. It was a different person but the same script at the same time.

I told them her they had already tried yesterday and she said, no, this is the first call you're getting from Microsoft. Wheover I talked to wasn't really from Microsoft. I said I'd gathered that much, and she hung up.

They really aren't very good at improvising when things go off script.

"I'm from Microsoft..."
I hung up.
<ring> <ring>
"Why did you hang up on me..."

Then I did this:

Quote:

Having checked the logs, they're persistent beggars.

I must find a way of forwarding their call to Billag and recording the conversation.

We got a few of those, and we live in France. Those poor guys must get terribly frustrated calling thousands of numbers to find one English-speaker..

Re: Cold called by [someone pretending to be from] Microsoft

I got their call again a few weeks ago, tell them I don't have any windows and they hung up.
Today I got it again. Straight speaking in English with me, same old stuff, I challenged him to give me my registration record in their database. He gave me my husband's name and our address
They know where we live!! Well, our old one, we moved last year. So glad they didn't have the updated information.
I'm kind of wondering now where do they get our information? Hacking some database or something?
