Re: I need your help [How to register a .ch domain]

Hi guys.
Quick question, since I'm noob.
I need a website with home page, products ( around 30 of them with pictures ), about part and MAYBE online payment. I also want an email with the same name as website.
Besides buying the domain, what else do I need? I was looking here at: https://www.one.com/en/ . Is the starter going to be enough, or proffesional maybe?
If the business develops only the number of products will change, but for now, what would you suggest to buy?
Thx

I use SwitchPlus and am very happy with them:

https://switchplus.ch/en/home/

I also like the fact it's in English whereas as other sites start in English then revert to French or German (not even Italian!).

Re: I need your help [How to register a .ch domain]

Thx for your answer, but that is not the answer to my question.
Besides domain, do I need anything else and what? Do I need web hosting, some kind of protection for online payment etc.
That's my question.
If there is already a topic somewhere, please redirect me there.

Just use Godaddy and get all your services in a single place, you can easily just give them a call or chat online and they will guide you through all your needs and what you need to register/rent with them in order to get all you need.

What you need is a professional helping you as you are obviously clueless. You'll need a small website. You'll probably want to manage it yourself, so it should be based on a content management system. The most popular one is called Wordpress. But that website won't design itself... You probably will need someone doing it for you. Online payment is not as trivial as you think it is... Probably something that should wait till you got the basics.

Re: I need your help [How to register a .ch domain]

I got my .ch domail from hostpoint last week.
They speak English. Very helpful. And I've used their web builder.
You can also Skype them if you are abroad.
All in all happy.
I'm more used to the 1and1 web builder and may move the hosting with them next month when the trial for the web builder ends.
But maybe I will get use to the hostpoint web builder, haven't played a lot with it so far.

You can also look at something like Squarespace, which is designed to be easy for inexperienced users to quickly set up a web presence, including e-commerce.

I haven't used them personally, so can't say how good they are, but they offer a free 30 day trial (with no credit card required).

Re: I need your help [How to register a .ch domain]

Thank you all.
My brother is making a site for me, so I just need to tell him what to do. That is his profession, but also his first project. He knows how and what to do, but it takes him some time.
But when I asked him what do I need to buy in order to upload that website online, he wasn't sure what to say. Lack of knowledge/experience.
That's why I'm here. To suck in your wisdom.

Yikes!

Make sure he's not just winging it on the security side, especially if you have e-commerce.

Re: I need your help [How to register a .ch domain]

It frankly does not sound like he knows how and what to do if he cannot tell you what he needs... I'd suggest to go with a managed content management system, so he cannot screw up security too badly.

That sounds like very good advice.
A few extra Francs spent now will likely save you many more Francs down the line and if it's an eCommerce site you need it to be professional in order to convince potential clients you are a reliable company to deal with.
