already seen a few guys at our place wearing them, I've resisted the urge to ask them how much they paid to get them so quickly

For those who have them, I'm interested in how the link-style band is. I'm looking at picking up a Huawei watch when they come out. I like the look of the leather band much more than the link-style metal one (looks similar to the Apple Watch one)---but leather might not be the greatest idea for any sport.
Still a while to wait though.

Just got the tattoo reference.
Kinda shocking that they didn't think this one through, I mean arm tattoos are equally popular in the hipster sheep crowd as apple products are.
They didn't have a single test individual with tattoos?

I believe, Apple has more than a few tattooed employees.
I don't think it got overlooked. More a design decision/compromise.

My watch arrived yesterday. Of course, I am somewhat of an Apple fan so I am a little biased but I have to say it is a really nice item, very subtle whereas I expected it to be more intrusive both in styling and in the way it interacts with you.
Although the attached image does not particularly show it, the image fidelity on the watch is lovely, very sharp, colours pop. The faces themselves (there are many you can choose from) are all very customisable. I have mine set with the next diary entry in the middle, temperature, alarm, and stock price on the bottom.
Other thoughts: For some reason the charging cord is very long, which is a bit of a surprise. The magnetic charging method works well though, and the UK plug adapter is a lovely thing, newly designed with pop out plug things for portability. I did not use many third party apps yet, but I am pleased to see that HUE lighting is there, so I can now turn on and off some of my house lights with my watch :-)
Siri works very well, and you can use the "hey siri" command so that you dont even have to press a button on the watch to use it (though you do have to turn the watch to face you so that the face switches on). I also like that it has a passcode option that only needs to be entered after the watch has been taken off your wrist.
Very happy with it. Thumbs up from krlock3

Apple watch will be available in Switzerland 26.06.2015
Not sure if this means, available to order, or available in the Apple store (the watch will apparently be appearing in some retail stores too at that date but I do not know if that means Switzerland).
A few weeks in, I'm more than happy with mine, and I also now bought a few more straps and like how customisable it is from that point of view too.

According to Apple's press release, it will be available online and in store.
Does not seem to be causing much of a stir though.

Hi,
I think the reason that it has not caused stir is for the majority of people it is a so what product ? It does nothing that can't be done by a phone, can't be used without an expensive phone and is over priced. Also even though in Switzerland people seem to buy Apple through habit they also like their expensive watches. An $83 watch is not going to cut it.
Maybe they will find some reason for you buying it but at the moment even Apple disciples are having difficulty explaining it's value.
Have fun
Martin

Well, I agree with some of that Martin, but in the end I also like watches, have several from cheap to expensive, and I think its a lovely watch, and very well made.
I would say that I do not think that the cheapest version is overpriced at all (sport), in fact, I actually think it is pretty well priced for what it does. But this in itself, tends to make the other versions look somewhat overpriced. and that edition version... well, that's just plain silly.
Let's see how it does when it actually gets here.

Personally as somebody who is all Apple, I cant really say I'm going to buy into this Apple Watch thing. A couple of guys at work have them and, yes, they look good and Apple seems to have done a good job at getting it to be a bit more functional than the competition.
However I would always take a mechanical watch face over an LCD or OLED display, even though the guts of my watches are always quartz - I can't see the point of buying an expensive totally mechanical watch when they're way less accurate than even the cheapest quartz watches, but that's just me.
Anyway here's a good article from the NY Times Magazine that discusses the effect that the Apple watch is having on the traditional Swiss high end watch manufacturers and how they are likly to respond - Article here. Personally I don't think that there's much response needed, at least from the high end players - those watches will always be bought as a status symbol by the rich and the famous.

I think they look pretty cool and I'm sure it will evolve into a very successful thing.
It's also surprised me how much the watch is being advertised, with emphasis on its apps.
Makes me think that they feel people need to be convinced of its usefulness.
I think Apple is so dominant that the brand risks becoming passe.

The reason why so many of us stick with Apple is that, like me, we've ended up so bought in that a change to another system would be a really expensive pain in the arse.
If there were serious supported applications available for Linux and if Linux wasn't such a fractured mess between distos I'd be there in a shot.

Analysts say the watch even in its cheapest version is the highest margin product of Apple.

It has a tolerance of +/- 3 seconds per month but in practice I find it is even less than that.
For something that is totally mechanical, that is really a thing of wonder if you really stop to think about it. If you add up all the motions that all of the cogs make per day, it comes to about a quarter million individual movements per day, happening right on your wrist.
It's not way less accurate and it's very special.

In case anyone was wondering, the Watch OS 2 beta is wholly uninspiring. Been testing the beta version and, bugs aside, it really seems like a v1.1 release at best

Forget the Apple watch, what is important is the app. How are these watches being applied that changes anything? If you can't really name one application that a phone doesn't already do, I don't really see any reason for one. Do you?

Do you? | | | | | I can't send a text message from a phone that's buried at the bottom of an inside pocket on a cold day.
I can send it via my watch and not even break my stride.
Meanwhile, using "Look Behind", I can keep an eye on the babies in the living room while I prepare their milk in the kitchen.
I can leave the phone out of reach of sticky hands, then turn on the music, turn the volume up or down, or skip to the next track, all without leaving the sofa (or, more likely, the floor).
Later, I can glance to see who just sent me that email without attracting the attention of the boss in a boring meeting.
In the hardware store, I can quickly find out what "adz" is in German, again without having to bugger about with my phone.
I can set a silent alarm that only I am aware of (it vibrates on my wrist), so nobody else is disturbed by it. Again, I can turn it off without having to pull the phone out of my pocket.
I can't speak for everyone, but I find the watch apps absolutely invaluable in my day to day life.
