Telephone connected by Swisscom with no connection

Am I the only person to have fallen foul of the following:

1. Contacted Swisscom and arranged phone line connection
2. Received letter and connection text
3. Plugged in on the appointed day - no dial tone
4. Tried another phone - no dial tone
5. Called Swisscom on mobile to be advised that there is no actual line to my appartment.
6. Had to call in an electrician to do the actual connection.

I understand that this is something to do with the separation of functions from Swisscom, but how could I have ever known - and saved myself an extra weeks wait for an electrician ?

Re: Telephone connected by Swisscom with no connection

If it makes you feel better I had a similar situation during a move:

1. announced in advance move within same community to keep my no.
2. nothing worked after move
3. called electrician who proved to Swisscom they were at fault
4. received no compensation or apology from Swisscom after complaint for
a) charges for connection etc.
b) electrician costs

And best of all I was a Swisscom employee at the time (in Mobile though).

The main issue was the switch also from ISDN to analog (as I was also adding ADSL). Of course they tried to keep me on ISDN to avoid doing the work.

You are in a Germanic country (for the most part) and accepting responsibility can be a problem especially when you can prove "alles in ordnung" on your side.

Agreed we are very Germanic here.

I lived for a number of years in Frankfurt so I understand what you are referring to however Deutsche Telekom were superb in comparison.

Co worker of mine actually Swiss German also fell into the same trap as me - so I dont feel entirely stupid... Well not completely

Re: Telephone connected by Swisscom with no connection

in most cases there is no problems at all

You just move, notify Swisscom, preferably telling them who was the previous renter.

The announced day you get the line.

But there are cases when this would not work

for example, if the previous renter had an ISDN connection installed, then your analog phone will not work, you'll need an electrician to change the cables back to the analog configuration.

It has happened to me so I know.

Re: Telephone connected by Swisscom with no connection

The previous owner of our house had ISDN but we didn't want that and told this to Swisscom. They said that there might be a problem on the switch day and we might have to do ...something... But there was no problem at all. On the day we asked for the phone & internet to be turned on, keeping the same number from previous address, everything worked fine.

I don't know why we were so lucky.

Re: Telephone connected by Swisscom with no connection

I have just moved in an apartment.
It so happens that the last 4 tenants before me, never had a landline!

My Regie insists that there shouldn't be a problem with swisscom.
Swisscom says that they cannot detect a valid phone line in my apartment.

Others in my building have a land line...
Any suggestions>?

Do I have to call out an electrician to get a 'digital line' set up ? (for i fear that the line in the apartment is analogue).

Can anyone please recommend a good/reasonable electrician than can set this up.

Forgot to add - I live in Geneva.

Re: Telephone connected by Swisscom with no connection

I don't know who's good in Geneva but yes call an electrician. Whatever they do is simple and takes about 2 minutes but I still haven't figured out what it is . Cost was low- 60 bucks when I lived in the mountains and maybe 100 here in La Cote area.

Interesting, since i was in similar situation but was treated differently,

1. announced in advance move within same community to keep my no.
2. nothing worked after move
3. Called swisscom to check whats going on, they were confused about the previous tenent details and took 4-5days figuring out

4. Since i dont speak german they arranged a electrician and even reimbursed me the electrician costs and recieved an apology letter later

And i live in Opfikon!!!!
