UPC cablecom "250mbit" internet speed

My Speedtests with UPC unsurprisingly shows close to the 250mbit download rate upgraded this month..

All other tests to Swiss based test sites never achieve more than about
160mbits download e.g. about 65%.

Anyone with similar experience attempting to get a resolution from UPC or is this difference the norm to be expected?

I have LAN direct attached iMac to Thomson 870 router , which I have reset several times..

(I have been a satisfied customer with UPC for 9 years - but there is a well known problem of finding an English speaker on the German orientated technical helpline to discuss this)

Re: UPC cablecom "250mbit" internet speed

It depends heavily on the server testing your speed. On speedtest.net connected at my place with a LAN cable I get over my 100Mbps (102 ) and I've seen ridiculous numbers on the ETH LAN.

The speedtest.net will give you reliably the max bandwith you can get. Other sites might not have the upload capacity to get you 250 and satisfy the rest of their traffic. If that shows close to 250, there is absolutely no reason calling UPC.

I wouldn't worry. If you play games, try Steam, that would reliably give me over 20MB/sec at a place I had a while back which I think had 200 or 250Mbps.

Think of it as having a car that is stuck in traffic. Yes you could do some serious speed, but not roads allow for that

UPC Cablecom actual speed

I am interested in knowing what real Internet speed I can expect with UPC Cablecom 100Mbit/sec and 250Mbit/sec connections in Zurich area (Volketswil)? One of my friends purchased 100Mbit/sec and complained that never exceeded 30Mbit/sec despite having numerous support cases opened. Is anyone able to share speed test results while connected with Cablecom?

Re: UPC Cablecom actual speed

I think there are lots of positive reviews about cablecom's internet speed. I am a subscriber here in Geneva and I get 200 Mbit/sec. I'm assuming your friend is only using 2.4Ghz wifi bandwidth isntead of 5Ghz but there could be other factors too.

I read you'll only get 30Mbit or so with old wireless G equipment.

Re: UPC Cablecom actual speed

I got 100 mbit from Cablecom and this speed is real, at download i sometimes
like 12Mbyte/s.
Depends on you router, it it could be less, but when you got a router like
the Netgear WNDR 4300 or better(price could get up to550 sfr) with a Gbit socket, you should be fine.

Re: UPC Cablecom actual speed

By data cable you'll get the advertised speed. With wireless much less as this depends on your wireless router - and UPC's own can only crank out 80Mbps - and your device, my iPad 2 could "only" 50Mbps...

252.34 Mbps isn't too bad for a 250Mbps connection :-)

Right - I have 250Mbps and max out at 85Mbps with the UPC router (5Hz n) and wired I get 251Mbps.

As an aside, I started on the 'max 250Mbps bundle' with TV and phone a few years ago and now see that UPC offer 500Mbps for a similar price...any tips for getting an upgrade?!

Re: UPC Cablecom actual speed

I've changed 3 flats and all of them had UPC. All of them were reliably hitting the advertised speeds without a hitch, and I'm a pretty heavy user.

Ethernet is the trick. When I had (briefly) a 250 Mbit connection (I think) I was seeing regularly 20-25 MB/sec on downloads from Steam. My current 100 Mbps connection has no problem feeding my PS4 either.

Re: UPC Cablecom actual speed

Check if the speed is available in your street/flat, then give UPC a
Call, sometimes they waive the fee for changing to another offer.

Re: UPC Cablecom actual speed

I am on the 100Mbps / 10Mbps bundle and reliably get close to that most times of the day. There's often a dip at peak evening hours. For that duration of a couple of hours, it drops to about 35Mbps. These are download speeds and all on wi-fi with the Horizon box. Uploads are consistently at 10Mbps.

Re: UPC Cablecom actual speed

I am noticing Sunrise is offering 1 Gbit/s upload and download speed

UPC is way behind in their offering, best they offer is 500 Mbit/s and 50 Mbit/s upload. Anyone know if they are planning to up their upload/download speeds instead of just hiking the price repeatedly?

Re: UPC Cablecom actual speed

With Swisscom I get 100 Mbits/s down und 100 Mbits up And who needs more. This obsession with more, more. UPC are really tricky and they almost force you to take the super trio at 129 CHF by adding alot more more TV programs. UPC are retarded. With Swisscom-250+ TV-Sender
Davon 100+ in HD. UPC only 180 sender. So UPC costs 159 CHF in the end including the cable connection fee. Swisscom 129 and thats all. No connection fee.

That will happen just after they decide to increase/hike their fees/prices and make everyone pay for it!!
