HELP! - Virus in Ipad? (by google.com-win.club)

Hello all,

I want to learn if it is possible for someone to collect any data from an Ipad by somehow putting in a virus or something like that? I mean what one can have with a computer is receiving a virus and it may run at the background to collect your data, does the same thing happen in an ipad?

Today my son was receiving a pop up window suddenly (as he explained) which was directing him to call a number and on the phone a machine was telling him some numbers and he was putting that "pin code" on the ipad where the pop up window was directing him to because he wanted to win an iphone..

Then there was a quiz opening on the ipad which the machine on the phone asked him to answer each question by pushing the numbers on the phone. So, it was something ongoing in paralel with ipad and phone. He said he did answer some questions and then stopped the call.

The name of the web page is google.com-win.club

I have many private data on my ipad, do you think some people were able to collect it by a virus or something? Is it possible to do such a thing with IOS?

Thanks for help..

There are some malware and viruses for the IOS.
Use your brain to protect and possibly an antivirus:

Re: HELP! - Virus in Ipad? (by google.com-win.club)

Most likely this was not a virus as such but some javascript running on a dodgy website..

The huge majority of 'virus' are either not actually a virus, but just you doing something you shoudn't do just because a webpage told you to do it, like install something (normally click here to install special something to protect you).. Or they are something you actually installed - like a 'helper tool' which changes your settings.. like changes your search engine to deliver paid results or ask you to call a number..

However, depending on how you use it.. It's fairly trivial to just restore to factory settings thus you are sure it contains nothing bad.. Assuming you backup to cloud etc etc .. Nothing would be really lost and you would be kinda guaranteed safe again.

Possible, sure.
On the probable clause now, no one really knows.

If I were in your shoes, I'd restore the iPad and change my passwords, pins, etc.
Just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for answers.

Restoring to factory settings is ok but do you think they can collect my information written in "Notes"? I have some passwords there for example..

If it was my iPad i would not worry .. I don't believe there is such a "virus" or application in the wild that can remotely read notes.. However it depends on to the extent that your son clicked and agreed to whatever via the pop ups, who knows. it just maybe, remotely possible that somehow something was read.. If your iPad is not jailbroken then i very much doubt there is any issue.

Just change the passwords you recorded and sleep easy.

Very silly unless written in a code that only you will understand.
Many websites suggesting changing your password, I change my use name instead

I had some weird pop-ups appearing on my iPad a year or so ago. I rang Apple and suggested I had a virus or similar... Think the guy wanted to laugh down the phone & assured me it was not possible

I installed an ad-blocker app and it's fine now!

By the way .. Don't click on the link in the title people

It's a well known phishing site, placed on respectable sites all over the web!

Anything device complicated enough to be a general purpose computer (and that includes your ipad), can be infected with malware. It's possible with all that clicking that your son has given permission for some software to run that collects your data and sends it to some remote address without you being aware of it. It may exploit some hitherto unknown security failing on the ipad to gain more access than would normally be expected. Having said that most malware is targeted at windows devices, so you gain some security through obscurity, so that chances of something awful are lower... but not removed. While there are no viruses for the iPad under the strict definition of computer virus, there's plenty of malware about that can severely ruin your day.

Save your data somewhere, change your passwords, reset your device to factory settings, and put the fear of whatsit into your son so that he learns about online security.

btw - there are many many phishing emails going around recently, some of which contain ransomware. If you get infected, it will encrypt your data and you will only be able to unencrypt it by paying a ransom for the key. Be very careful about any attachment to any email even if seems to come from someone you know and trust.
