Warning: unsolicited SMS from value-added services

I couldn't work out why my Salt bills were regularly topping 200.- per month for the last few months. I thought at first it was some additional roaming charges as I'd been to the UK quite a bit recently. When I actually checked my bill, my daughter had been receiving messages/offers from a value-added company at 5.- per SMS, 3 SMS per week. She doesn't remember why she subscribed, but sent me screenshots of the riginal message, but she is adamant she hasn't seen any messages since. I told her to send a STOP SMS to the number and we'll see what happens. The company is Lalamobi and she's directed to d/l content from a site with the URL pikkki.ch, for which I get an Error 403 on my PC, so it's probably a mobile site only. we'll see if cancelling has worked. It's cost me over 400.- since September, so a word of warning.

Re: Warning: unsolicited SMS from value-added services

Can you block the number as well/speak to SALT about confirming the service is stopped as well?

Re: Warning: unsolicited SMS from value-added services

Spoke to Salt and they can see that she has been receiving messages from this service, but she is adamant she has never seen them. If a number is blocked from your mobile, is it still delivered to your account, but you are unable to read it?
Anyway, they have blocked all premium services from her phone, so at least she won't make that mistake again. I can't see me getting my money back though; she agreed to the service without realising what the hell it was.

Re: Warning: unsolicited SMS from value-added services

Once when I newly switched from prepaid to postpaid on sunrise I started receiving random SMSes. At first I ignored them thinking it must be some advertisement. Then one fine day I got annoyed and opened to see what it actually was and was shocked to see that they were in fact charging me per sms. It said something like as per our contract you are being charged 5 francs per sms. I called the customer service and was told I had accumulated charges over 800 CHF!

I told them I had not signed any such contract and was certainly not going to pay. Also, I demanded to know how this company had gotten hold of my number as I had not given it to anybody. Luckily the guy at the customer service didn't argue and cancelled the charges. He also blocked all such services so it wouldn't happen again . He said sometimes you can by mistake click on a bogus link online and start receiving these messages and not even know about it. Maybe the same happened to your daughter.

Re: Warning: unsolicited SMS from value-added services

On iPhone some dodgy web sites will open the SMS window, fill in the content and destination number, so if someone hits "send" then it might cost a bit or start an "agreement" for an unwanted service.

Re: Warning: unsolicited SMS from value-added services

She thinks it might have been something to do with an H&M voucher offer. She'd also blocked the number as she'd been receiving loads of SMS from them .

Bloody teenagers.

Re: Warning: unsolicited SMS from value-added services

Had the same problem here with the childs phone. The company said he'd typed in a code to activate a service. Can't remember the same of the site now but I wrote threatening with A Bon Entendeur, ombudsman etc. their terms on the site said over 18. They cancelled it.

Did you see this page Paddy?

Yes I have and emailed them to cancel the service, as well as getting my daughter to text the stop code.

Hmm, interesting clause on the age restrictions; you have to be at least 18 to use the service, or get the consent of the parent or mobile subscription holder in order to do so. My daughter didn't, so is this a possible avenue to get my money back?

I think so. But if I were you, I'd get the money back off her first...
