Salt offer CHF 19/month

I was looking for a new mobile plan today and found this offer from Salt: https://www.salt.ch/en/easter-basic-promotion/ - seems like a reasonable deal, although the offer does end today.

I was looking at Coopmobile and their Abo Swiss Flat for CHF 29.99 / month, but over a 24 month period the Salt offer is CHF 23.76 cheaper

It's written clearly:
Offer valid for the first 12 month
Only available for a new 24 months subscription.

so 19*12+39*12=696chf.
=29chf/months for 24months.

Yeah...23.99chf cheaper, in appearance surely.
PS: I have Salt from one of my mobiles, it's beyond horrible. Poor reception where I live, while my Swisscom have much better reception.
Many mistakes in last few months including 3 attempts to bill me false things.
Contacting customer service was long, and unpleasant, especially that I had to explain them everything for long and they were making it like they were doing me a favor and hardly admitted wrong doings.

Salt and Sunrise are a no-go for me.

Sorry to hear that. I have seen excellent coverage with Salt in the area where I live.

No was my mistake, I though you were refering to monthly cost.

I'd pay hundreds francs extra just not to have to deal with salt.

23.76 over 2 years is almost not significant, there are probably lot of hidden things with salt, like they automatically subscribe to their 10chf/ "security" offer, and all that. Been there, done that, it's not worth it.

Yeah, the savings are not substantial . I'll see how it goes, hopefully I will have a better experience with Salt than the one you have had!

We might have different experience but their customer service is the same...
Good luck, you'll need it!
PS: check your bills carefully, otherwise you'll pay for the random things they are adding regularly, unrelated to your contract.

I am using salt and well, yes, there are places where Swisscom has the better network. I never had an issue in town centers or the areas I live and work, but this seems to be the case especially on rail tracks.

For me it does not make a difference (and the savings are much higher if you need an all-in plan that includes the EU...) and if I can throw in one bit: The support and the billing was excellent so far. I did not get any hidden costs and the website is way easier to use than the Swisscom log-in of my wife...

I have to agree here; not once have I been billed for hidden costs. The one time I did have a problem, when my daughter inadvertently subscribed to a premium service, the customer helpline was extremely helpful in resolving it. She even went as far as to phone me back so I wouldn't be hanging on the line whilst she investigated. I have also never had any coverage problems.

Another vote here for Salt. Swisscom is abysmal where I live (Zurich city, if you can believe it) and Salt consistently gives me 4G.

I would pay a lot not to have to deal with salt. Swisscom for 2 years now and no issues. Orange/salt still owe me for a phone that one of their staff send to somebody and charged us....still no resoltion.
Good luck!

Re: Salt offer CHF 19/month

I just extended my Salt subscription and went for the normal 19 CHF subscription.
I think Salt is ok and it is not worth switching. SwissCom is more expensive and Sunrise I don't even consider.

Re: Salt offer CHF 19/month

Hi,

my Salt subscription comes up for renewal soon. I pay 75 CHF ( 1Gb Europe, 3 preferred numbers, 60 minutes talk time and unlimited surfing in Switzerland and 15CHF reduction for buying the mobile myself)

What is annoying is that the new subscription is 89 CHF for the same service and it is no longer possible to get the 15CHF deduction. So for the same service I have to pay an extra 14CHF per month!!! To me that is a massive price increase for getting essentially the same service.

The problem seems to be that Swisscom and Sunrise are even more expensive for the same service and with my corporate phone I have had coverage from Swisscom and their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

The internet coverage is important to me as it is great to go on holiday and to not have to worry about roaming costs for surfing.

Any one have any better alternatives ?

thanks

martin

Re: Salt offer CHF 19/month

Lycamobile.ch gives you 500 mins throughout EU and CH mobile and landline with 1Gb 4G data in Ch and unlimited slow after - all for CHF19.- for 30 days.

Uses Swisscom network and is not a contract. Can roll over or stop after 30 days.

What's to discuss??

Re: Salt offer CHF 19/month

I am leaving Salt.

Previously under Orange the agents had some wiggle room with regards to your options come renewal time - this is no longer the case

Also my 10chf monthly discount for providing my own handset was only valid for the first year

I find 4G speed good when you can get it but a lot of the time even in urban areas and high up within glass sided office buildings you are lucky to get E

I am going to give LycaMobile a try as you seem to get more bang for you buck if I have correctly understood the offer i.e 19CHF a month for 500 mins to CH/'europe' landline/mobile + 500 SMS + 1GB data, seemingly all usable even when roaming, which if that is indeed the case represents astonishing value

Not only that but it's PAYG and not contract, free SIM and it is one of the few companies to piggyback the seemingly always better connected Swisscom network (m-budget being the only other I can think of)

I also note that Salt are no longer the sponsors of 'Orange Cinema' (Allianz has taken that over) so presumably they will also soon drop the cheap cinema ticket offer soon..?

Though cheap that does not fulfil what I am looking for. 1GB is much too low inside Switzerland and I do not see any international data roaming in that offer.

The international data roaming is very important to me as is having up to 5Gb data surfing per month in Switzerland.

Thanks

Re: Salt offer CHF 19/month

What is offered in the deal by Salt looks very comparable (the same?) to my Sunrise Classic package and that costs 50 Fr p month. It is also possible (like with Sunrise) to add on a European country for unlimited calls for 15 fr per country.

The offer period has been extended until tonight. I think I might switch. I'll also look at the Lycamobile offer too. Thanks OP and above posters for sharing.

Re: Salt offer CHF 19/month

Looks like a decent offer. I was with Orange until it turned into Salt. Service was never bad. Better then sunrise. Got me once bad while roaming in the States long ago. Didn't realize that my Nokia was data connecting while navigating. But they did reduce my shocking bill somewhat when I got back home. Now I'm with UPC (also Salt service) and get a 5 SFr discount as a cable customer. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to give them 3 months notice for cancellation. So if you do a 24 month contract you have do give em notice by month 21.

Think it is 60 days. I spoke to the CS who told me I could cancel on phone or on the website but notice period is 60 days.

I got similar requirements and ended up paying the 89 at Salt. Swisscom was WAY more than that for a similar package and I use that 1GB abroad a lot...
