How is it LycaMobile's International bundle is cheaper w/ more than its National one?

e.g.

National Bundle (NO DATA!)

Price Calls Mins SMS CHF20 /30 days
Validity
500
calls from Lycamobile to Lycamobile in Switzerland
500
Minutes to landlines and mobile in Switzerland
500
National SMS
500
SMS from Lycamobile to Lycamobile in Switzerland

International bundle (includes data)

Price Mins SMS Data CHF19 /30 days Validity

500
Minutes to EU and Switzerland (Landline & Mobile)
500
National SMS
Unlimited Data (First 3GB DATA at 4G speed then reduced speed at 120 kb/s)

and am I correct in thinking that these allowances can also be used when roaming?

It'd be really helpful if any EF members who are currently with LycaMobile can let us know how they find the coverage, customer service etc…

Re: How is it LycaMobile's International bundle is cheaper w/ more than its National

I use EU19. While calls to mobile and landlines EU-wide data is only in Switzerland.

It's true, their pricing is potty!

I just topped up and got CHF65 credit for CHF50. Last time I got 25,000 minutes as a loyalty bonus.

Lycamobile's customer service is as good as no existent and their website is flakey. But they are cheap and use Swisscom's network.

In the UK they gave me an 0044 UK mobile number so people in the UK could call me...

2 things that aren't entirely clear from their website

- what speed is 4G offered at (as swisscom appear particularly mean in forcing people to pay for higher speeds of 4G)

- what are the options for roaming data packages

4G speed is capped .. I've never seen my speed test go above 16-18mb/s . But it's rock solid stable.. If you need more speed then you're doing something special.

Roaming : I have no specific plan, I simply buy 5gb or 10gb of data each month.. When I cross the border I get free (or so cheap i don't notice) *3G* and a locally assigned number.. I have no idea if or how to get 4g roaming.

a locally assigned number..
So on the same SIM as your swiss number, you get a different number for each country your roam in, without having to change config or swap sim cards?

Yes -- That..

On crossing the border you get a SMS saying your FEEL AT HOME service is active and here's your local number so that people can call you locally.. I leave data roaming disabled on my iphone but data still works, because it's not roaming, it's local.

** I notice that this does not kick in immediately .. Usually when in new country for half day or so.. If i just pop to the local shop over the border for 20 mins it doesn't happen.

Re: How is it LycaMobile's International bundle is cheaper w/ more than its National

I use lycamobile (have swiss number) and constantly use EU39 bundle, which renew every month (I get an sms 3 days before renewal to remind me that I have to make sure I have enough on my pre-paid account).
What is great for me - whenever I go to any country in Europe where the Lycamobile is present on the market (currently I think 17 countries like Germany, Poland, Italy, France, etc.) I have still unlimited calls. The exception is the data, which is excluded from this free roaming.

For this they have a special packages for data roaming, always S, M and L 'sizes' (it's 250mb, 500mb and 1GB). You activate it by sending sms with specific code (depending on the country and package data) to the number which I don't remember right now and I can't find it on their webpage.
This activate for some time (a month? or more) the data package which gets active whenever you go into this country.
The country matters - i.e. when I went to France I paid three times more for the data package than when I used the same size package for Germany. It's still not very expensive though. Countries are grouped together as well, i.e. the same data package is valid for both Germany and Poland. The one for France was also valid in Portugal I guess.

Unfortunately I don't remember what was the sms content, number and price for them. I always have to call them asking for options (can't find it on their website).
If someone can find it somewhere - please post it, as it may be usefull for us.

About coverage - I never had problems, either in CHE or other countries when using lyca. Internet speed is fair (hsdpa) but I'm not using it to download massive data, so hard to say. Streaming on youtube in HD is with no delays, if it tells you something.

I couldn't find better option in CHE as an expat from EU country which I'm calling a lot.

Problem with Lyca is when you are outside Swiss you need to change the Internet setting manually. eg. from lyca.ch to lyca.de etc.

When I leave the country I don't change anything ..

Unless "Swiss" is a country I don't know about or something ..

It is free and actually lyca gives you 10chf per month for the first 3 months. If you have a contract, you might need to wait until your contract finishes. If you have prepaid it is free at any time.

I have never received a local number when my FEEL AT HOME option has been activated - so not sure what that is about. Is this something you have had happen recently? I have been using LycaMobile for 2 years and am happy with their prices.

I think the link following this paragraph is the page with the info you are looking for - scroll down to the 2nd page and you see the "data add-ons" where you can choose for the country you will be traveling to. For example, it looks like the prices for Australia ,Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Romania, Spain, Netherland, Sweden, UK is 5 CHF for 250 MB, 7 CHF for 500 MB, and 12 CHF for 1 GB. It is valid for 30 days.

http://www.lycamobile.ch/sysimages/m...2015_swiss.pdf

To get the "no roaming" you need to activate the option once you buy the bundle:
Dial *139*1001# and follow the instructions on the screen

Is the unlimited national data for EU 19, 39, 49, & 59 new? On the page where you look up "no roaming charges" under the "offer" tab, it still shows EU 19 with 500 MB data.

This looks like to me the best deal for my useage, and will switch to it now - I have previously used the Talk and Text 12 plus 1 GB data which was 17.90 per month. The EU 19 is a no brainer with the unlimited data.

Some "small print" on the EU 19 plan:
Quote:
*No roaming promotion does not apply to data. Customers will need to buy a special data bundle add on. The promotion is limited to 1000 minutes, 1000 SMS and 100 minutes between Lyca to Lyca calls per bundle while roaming. Anything over those amounts will be charged at standard rates.
I have also found their website overly confusing and also no customer service - but the prices can't be beat. I have learned by doing with them - for example, the "feel at home" free roaming that I used to get on the Talk and Text 12 plan was only valid for 59 days, then I would switch to the EU 19 plan and get the free roaming again. I wonder if this is still the case - time to read the fine print. But I think the EU is getting rid of roaming fees, right, so this could be a result of this change.

I just looked up the "Terms and Conditions" on the EU 19 and did find the 59 day rule again:

Quote:
No roaming costs are only available for a continuous period of 59 days.
This info is from the following page: http://www.lycamobile.ch/en/roaming-sim-card

Hope this info has helped some and not made things more confusing!

Re: How is it LycaMobile's International bundle is cheaper w/ more than its National

Has anyone used their swiss lycamobile in the US while roaming? I have been now 3-4 times to the US and each time I have no service when using lyca. This is even though lyca is supported in the USA and technically you should be able to roam for free over there.

I have even tried to manually connect to T-mobile (their partner) but with no success.

Re: How is it LycaMobile's International bundle is cheaper w/ more than its National

Well, I tried a lycamobile sim the last few weeks. After activating it in switzerland and activating the Eu19 deal things were working but:
  • I always get the "Roaming" sign on, even when in Switzerland, with the drawback that I have to be careful about activating data when roaming which is a pain
  • When I went to Italy the phone was always in "Emergency mode only", I wasn't able to call or receive calls, not to mention any data.
Not sure if I still need to activate anything for roaming... otherwise looks like a good deal. Still pondering between Lycamobile and M-Budget One

Well there is nothing that you can do about the "R" Roaming sign, unless you have android and rooted in which case there are some possible (non proven) solutions.

As for the emergency mode, you might have the network roaming disabled from the phone or from the simcard, depending on your phone type this might be fixable.

On Android enabling the network roaming on the simcard is easy by clicking lycamobile services (small simcard icon with a cogwheel), click lycamobile>Select Mode> and making sure select mode is set to automatic!

Hi there,

I have two questions:

If I buy an "International Bundle" (EU 19 or EU 39) ...
http://www.lycamobile.ch/en/bundle >> click on the appropriate tab

... would I be able to use the mobile internet in France, Germany or the UK? Or should I buy a "Data Bundle"?

Also, how do we get a local number in an EU country?

Many thanks for your time

EU 19 etc is only unlimited DATA in Switzerland. Phone calls are 500minutes - or in my case 25,000 minutes loyalty bonus throughout the EU - but there appears to be a problem in Greece, where I am just now: I have not been made to feel like at home.

A local phone number is sent by SMS when you are in the country. This has only worked with the U.K. so far...
