'Obtaining' TV via usenet, is it legal in CH?

Hi all,

I did a search but didn't find anything...

Anyway, I obtain quite a few US shows via a usenet service that I pay for monthly.

I don't really want to discuss the ethics, but basically, it's TV, and I pay 2 full Sky subs, so I'm just watching 'advanced screenings' of things that would be on anyway.

I believe that as Usenet doesn't upload, I'm not doing anything wrong. Can someone confirm?
What am I risking?

Thanks,

it's my belief that TV shows are not being RIAA-ed but movies and music are.

however they're going for those who probably do BIG traffic. Sore Thumb Syndrome

I don't know the credibility of the source but it says:

The downloading of copyrighted data containing texts, pictures or music is allowed for the personal use. According to the predominant opinion of the doctrine in Switzerland the download for personal use is allowed, even if the offered data („Upload“) was illegally uploaded

So yes, it seems so.

Thanks,

So basically, I can continue without worrying?

I'm just concerned of what my ISP may say if I like download 3Gbs in a go...
They've not said anything yet, though...

Does anyone else do this too?

The argument that you were told on english forum that it's legal won't save your backside when the boys in blue come knocking LOL
CH does take intellectual copyright stuff very seriously. So chances of you getting into trouble are low but still there.

Not directly related but worth reading- http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/enter...nt/6192264.stm

Well, I don't mean to be motivating or anything.. But "I've got a friend", who downloads several tens of gigabytes every month.

But then again, I can't recall who that was

Why, if Swiss law says that:

a) It's OK for personal use.
b) I'm not uploading.

By the way, I only do it for TV shows, that I watch once and then delete...I don't do it for films, music or software, that I buy.

Hey Guys,

Heres something that might make you sleep easier at night. Its great for blocking IP's from ads, popups and anyone that may be watching.

@j_in_ch, you pay for something thats free? Why not just use torrents?

Cheers
