Rj45 wall socket wiring issue.

Hi all.

I have a internet wall socket (rj45) that I think needs to be wired properly. As I moved a fish tank close to it I dropped the tank light and shortly after we discovered we lost internet and phone connection. I think the light ripped out either 1 or 2 wires from a separate cable that was fed into the back of the rg45 wall socket.

The question is how do I know which of the 4 wires on the separate cable need to be wired to rj45 wall socket?

The separate cable has white, blue, purple and green wires.

If I go through the combinations and check for connection will I start damaging equipment? Swisscom box, router, splitter etc.

I have searched and searched. Through the internet and this forum but with no luck.

All I need is the wiring diagram for a rj45 wall socket with I believe 4 connections. Thats all the socket has.

Re: Rj45 wall socket wiring issue.

Here is the socket...

There is no way 2 wires can do the phone and internet. Thats what we had. One rj45 socket for all.

By "internet" do you mean where the phone line connects into the router, or something else.

Plain old phone= 2 wires
ISDN= 2 wires
Ethernet=4 wires.

What kind of line/router do you have?

Re: Rj45 wall socket wiring issue.

Fritzbox 7390

Swisscom box ISDN -NT1+2a/b

New splitter with 2 out.

Have do lunch and work. Will get back later with diagram of how I believe all equipment should be wired up.

I am the last one to look at this after two others gave up in vain. So the cabkes to everything I have had to figure out again.

I will also go and buy one of those cheap cable testers. Anyway I bought a few short rj45 cables to make sure everything is ok on that front.

The 2nd pic would appear to be his end of the DeMarc, pins 1 & 2, but their also seems to be a 2nd white pair in the UP Dose. Not sure what the 2 pair in his first pic is from.

Re: Rj45 wall socket wiring issue.

White/Dark-Blue (normally used) and Cyan/Purple (sometimes used as feedback) are each a pair.

There are two ways to connect it to a RJ45. Standard is:
Cyan- 3, Blue - 4, White - 5, Purple - 6
The old Swiss way was:
Purple- 3, Blue - 4, White - 5, Cyan- 6

For a telephone it should not mater which one you do.

Re: Rj45 wall socket wiring issue.

On page 9 of this document, there is wiring diagram for Swisscom "Internet" sockets, including colour code:

Re: Rj45 wall socket wiring issue.

Ok thanks a lot.

I will look into the info and the diagrams.

Mornings are when I have the energy for this. In the mean time I will order a cable tester tonight from amazon de. They sell them for about 8 euro. Good investment.

I dont what those two wire are either. They come up from the unit below, one white the other with a red line as well. So I covered them with tape. I dont ever remember those being plugged in. Glad they were not energized, had my fingers all over them... In that area I have always been lucky. Except that one time...

It may be that the white pair goes to a 2nd telephone jack somewhere else in the apt, or that they pulled a 2nd line in, or that they are speaker wires.... you never know.
