who's the vpn provider? maybe you pick one in the US more than happy to respond to legal requests to give up your name.

or maybe one of the trojan vpns who also get a commission on successful lawsuits...
Enough proper VPN providers that do not log IP's making it impossible to ever trace back who performed the download.

There are a whole bunch of good ones, but if people ask me I just tell them to grab NordVPN

Or maybe you don't pick a US one. And it is not necessary to provide the VPN provider with your name. The VPN provider cares for his reputation related to such issues, otherwise he might get of business.

If you are really really paranoid, you can use a chain of VPNs (like in "chain of evidence"). They still can go after you, but this is probably not worth the effort. By far. These guys are hucksters going after the easy target, a low hanging fruits. Someone you can tell "pay, or else" and he'll promptly pay.

Well, not really. The discussion here regards Swiss law and in this respect it appears to be quite unusual when compared to the rest of the World, which is what your link is discussing.

Re: Torrent Download - legal or not

Perhaps consider the Usenet as an alternative. Upload and download are separated so you can make sure you conform to Swiss law. Some providers are free, others aren't; with some plans you pay for time, others for download volume used.

Sidenote:
usenet.nl and usenext.com for instance are providers who use the Usenet, they're not the Usenet.
