Renewed Microsoft Office 365 and for one week now my computer logs off after 15 seconds (hardly gives me time to put the kettle on, bastard!)

Anyway, tried all the usual tricks with Manual Repair, Power Save, links prescribed by Swisscom, nothing works. Apparently, it is a malfunctioning when updating / renewing and has been general for the last week or so. Of course, no way to join Microsoft for technical help. Anyone has been in same situation and found a solution, other than swearing at computer?
You must be a suspicious user?

This is an old report but maybe it enlightens you? I did not read it in detail.

Yes, I've done the USB with full OS setup.

I was just wondering, if I ever need to do a format C and install from zero, would I first have to put win-7 from my CD, then update win-10 from this USB stick.
No, that is the point you will simply install windows 10 from the USB and if the activation does not work (due to change in hard drive) then simply call Microsoft and they will remotely active your machine's windows 10 OS for you.

Not sure that's true, TBH. Sure, it won't be 'supported' after that date, but no reason it should suddenly stop working. Actually might run better as it won't keep trying to download understand updates every few weeks.
Yesterday's xkcd just about sums it up for me, although in my case the black line is much further right most of the time

Re: You can still get Windows 10 upgrade for free if you hurry...

A moody ba****d, windows 10 is. Didn't I know I wouldn't like it.

Over night it decides not, absolutely not to talk to the printer again. "Never, nope and I shall NOT tell you why either. Can't you sense the reason? No? You're so cold".

The next day it will refuse to connect to the wireless display adapter again. Guess the text would be "I transferred HDMI signals all night to your tv and you didn't even bother watching it. HA! Who do you think you are, wasting my time, I got better things to do". Not to forget the bit "and to teach you the lesson and make sure you don't forget it, I shall display "connecting to the device" on top of every blooming screen you will ever use although I'm just bluffing".

Jesus! Why did I get divorced?! At least there were some fun moments in between, unlike "living with" windows 10.

What this thing doesn't know yet: I shall win. I always do.

edit: This public rant and a real tasty dinner later this thing does know.

That's absolutely right. I have already a few Android apps saved as the newer versions don't do what I need. The same is happening with pc software. Long live Virtual Box!

Re: You can still get Windows 10 upgrade for free if you hurry...

The international annoyance about win-10 calling home is showing in names now:
The German <<Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI) >> (Federal Office for Information Security) did - or is still doing - a study they call Sisyphus Win10
<<Sisyphus Win10: Studie zu Systemintegrität, Protokollierung, Härtung und Sicherheitsfunktionen in Windows 10 >>

To deactivate DiagTrack there is also a tool available called Freeware Shutup 10
(this is no recommendation for the tool, I did not use it)

You don't need the tool, just follow the simple instructions here.

Nice. I've still got a working Win95 notebook somewhere. Battery died years ago, and it's too small-screened to be of any practical use these days, but it still runs OK.

Basically what I did.
I also went into registry and set the value to 0 at HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WMI\Autologg er\AutoLogger-DiagTrack-Listener\Start“.

The reason I got to all this was noticing that my system had become very slow. Don't know yet if this actually does the trick now but I'm not unhappy I came accross it.

I wasn't aware of it, and have had no problems, but after your earlier post I looked into it. The fact that the "Privacy" settings only allow you to choose a more or less basic amount of data reported back, not to switch it off altogether, bugs me, so I wanted to turn it off as a matter of principle.

Re: You can still get Windows 10 upgrade for free if you hurry...

Does the free upgrade still work? I bought a new laptop but the bastards put there Windows Home. I'm really offended by having a system which lacks all the management tools.

I have a copy of windows 7 pro, tried it with success on the new beast. Didn't even bothered with all the new hardware, just enough to login and activate. Then I tried to update it to 10 and got a nasty surprise, the installer decided to install 10 Home

Unless Pro or Business is part of the model name, most laptops are installed with the Home version these days.

However, you can give these guys a try:

Never dealt with em, so can't give any Guranttee. But at 12 Euros there aint much to lose.

I know that I can buy an upgrade from Home to Pro. The question was about the free upgrade from an earlier Pro OS. I am just curious what happened, either the upgrade program is closed for good or the issue is that MS knows that on my laptop 10 Home was activated so it refuses the 'free upgrade from legacy OS'.

What you write is not logical. If it updated your win7 to win10 Home, the update can't be closed.
Did you do a good ol' format C before you installed the win7 pro? No left over information about what you bought it with?

FYI: https://www.ghacks.net/2019/11/30/he...10-still-work/

However in your case you may find it easier if you shell out the 12 euros for a pro lic..
