iPhone 7 released today

Well given they've chosen the 7th September for the release date I think we can assume this will be the name of it. I've managed to nurse my iPhone 5 through the past few months so I think after 4 years it's time for something new.

If the rumours circling in the press are true than the changes are going to be quite underwhelming, with the big update to come next year for the 10 year anniversary.

So, who's going to be getting it?

Re: iPhone 7 released today

I will be getting a 7 plus. Coming from an iPhone 6 I'm expecting a reasonable bump in performance and a major improvement in the camera. The 6 is still a handsome phone so I am not concerned that it looks similar, people are getting very hung up on that but for me its a non issue.

As for losing the 3.5mm headphone port, I am sure I will manage with a lightening port adaptor.

P.S I slept like a baby last night

Re: iPhone 7 released today

I'm going to listen to them elucidate about "aluminum monocoques" and "slate color tones" and wait and see just exactly how good the improvements are. If the highlight is just a slightly better camera and improved processing then I'll probably just go back and get the iPhone SE. The price of this guy will probably go down, the size is good and it also definitely has 3.5mm port.

Which means that the iPhone released today might be called the 6SE.

I'm already running iOS 10, and so far I'm impressed. There appear to be less bugs in the iOS beta than what there were in iOS 9 up until 9.3. Also everything seems to be a touch smoother in iOS 10 as well. With that in mind my existing iToys should easily last at least another year, so I'm not really interested in this year's releases.

Re: iPhone 7 released today

It is a long time since I have seen people, taken in by all the marketing hype, camped out by a phone shop, waiting for it to open in order to get their hands on the latest iPhone release.
I guess the magic has just gone out of it.

Of course it has. Smartphones are now ubiquitous and these days buying a new smartphone is a bit of a grudge purchase, driven mostly by breakages and failures of the old handset.

When I watch these Apple keynotes, I do sometimes think it would be best for us all if an asteroid were to come and wipe us out. The whoops and cheers and high fives over a mobile telephone does make me fear for the future of humanity.

Re: iPhone 7 released today

I'll be happy if they bump the base model to 32gb as rumoured. I use a company issued phone, its always the base model and I'm due an upgrade from the 5.

I may sound a bit spoilt complaining about only having 16gb storage on a device thats free, but its not free, I just pay with my soul instead of cash. I don't want to have to carry a second smartphone for all my personal stuff (maps, music & photos).

It will all depend on whether my loyalty bonus is worth taking - if not I'll keep my iPhone6 - whose only problem is a lack of storage

Re: iPhone 7 released today

No offence meant to Loz, and it's probably an age thing on my part, but when people flash their phones about as if they were jewellery, all I can think is... "It's an effin phone! I couldn't care less if it's in rose gold or not!" A couple of my friends have worked with Vertu, but personally, I think that's taking things to an obscene level.

At no point in the first 35yrs of my life, did I or my parents ever ask friends to admire the phone in our hallway. In fact, before the advent of the iPhone, the only phone related snobbery I encountered was when my mum was getting hard of hearing, so I bought her a phone that had a flashing purple neon tube in it. A few weeks later she called me to complain that Vera Duckworth on Coronation Street had the same phone.

Re: iPhone 7 released today

I really like the new innovations on the iPhone 7. For example, it is the first innovative waterproof phone (there were others before but they were just waterproof, not innovative).
Also, it is the first phone that is available in black. I really wonder why no other manufacturer ever did that.
Finally, they got rid of this dreadful, old-fashioned headphones plug. I was waiting for that for years!

My 4s 16Gb will be put out to pasture (i.e. sold for an extortionate amount on EF) and a shiny new 7 should do me for the next 5 years.

BTW it costs CHF33 less in Switzerland than in the UK...

I am waiting for one that is nuclear powered, lighter than air, and free. A case with gold or wood inlay would be nice - perhaps even a built in humidor.

Re: iPhone 7 released today

So we're all in agreement that the new phone looks pretty pants?

A better camera (which is really only much better on the massive iPhone), water resistance, no headphone jack, a vibrating home button and stereo speakers from which to sodcast from. Oh, and "jet black".

Not worth the price tag at all.

The one thing that would make me buy it is if they stopped trying to make the iPhone resemble a sheet of paper and made it thicker with a decent battery so I wouldn't have to charge several times a day.

Overpriced perhaps, but in terms iOS of doing way less, can you give me an example. My experience in terms of my usage case, which admittedly is quite niche, is exactly the opposite.
