Re: Swisscom stops DSL Standard

I've just ditched Cablecom altogether, because I was using Zattoo anyway, and opted for the Salt Unlimited Surf subscription with a MiFi box. Subscription is CHF 35/month, I'm getting speeds of around 40 meg, and it's half the price of basic Cablecom Internet. I know Salt are a bit of a shower a lot of the time, but they still seem best VFM and are producing 4G speeds perfectly good enough to run an SME with.

Re: Swisscom stops DSL Standard

update on the switch from DSL.

It took me an hour to disconnect and reconnect. Very straightforward and all is working fine. There was no additional billing for the router nor TV box. Though I received the normal invoice with a wrong subscription on it but think they will correct that next invoice.

I do feel that the internet is slower than we were used to. Maybe the DSL was faster than the 10Mb promised. Still ok though.

Also we now have included the Swisscom MyCloud unlimited for free which is nice.

I've seen the offer now:
https://www.salt.ch/en/internet-home/

Seems great idea and probably will beat my poor 4MB/s download with crappy line.

Juts curious about T&C for the amount of data you can download/upload...

I'm going to read it now, have you?

I cna't clearly find the T&Cs for that offer, it seems I have more chances to find the needle in the haystack...

Hm so what they do for people living in remote area with only their crappy basic DSL and poor speeds?

Swisscom refused to even bring the fiber optics to the main village of 6000 inhabitants...

Since they must provide minimum service of 2MB/s free for each citizen, I doubt its entirely true that they drop DSL entirely...

Curious though!
I wonder about the same thing as where I live the phone-lines are not really usable for internet.

4G option seems really good, especially if only 35CHF/months (no fixed line fee).

Yet I can't find exact T&Cs for now.

That would be via mobile, right? And salt is originally orange. And I had to leave orange because they couldn't give me a reliable handy-connection at home. Which means .....

(One would think I live way up in the mountains yet I pay Winterthur taxes and get absolutely nothing for it living only 10 car-minutes from the center.)

What's T&C?

Re: Swisscom stops DSL Standard

Quick evaluation after a few weeks ending the DSL and starting the Vivo XS. Everything is working as it did before, no change in speed. The internet does no longer stop when the phone rings.

Only thing is that the internet stops when watching Swisscom TV (which we do not very often as Zattoo is the main provider of TV in our house). Another thing is that the internet is less stable than before. We have every week a period of no internet. Sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 20 minutes. It shows us how much we rely on these services to work properly these days.

I agree but it is true...
The DSL could not cope with phone and internet at the same time. When the phone rang the internet stopped. It did come back later no matter if you were still on the phone or not. Tried many times to fix it...

Now with Vivio the internet stops when the swisscom TV is on!

Your setup is/was wrong, what you need(ed) is a DSL filter.
Or something was wrong with it.
Google it.

yes of course but I would have thought the OP knows that? It normally came with the modem, no?

Re: Swisscom stops DSL Standard

Following on from the cablecom post today, this Swisscom change is obviously coming back to bite us in the ass as our account now says it won't be supported much longer. Currently we have DSL mini + phone for chf 59 per month & they will force us to take Vivo XS for 74 so a forced raise of 15 francs for people who have been solid customers for many years, or find another company. We don't even need or want the tv. To me this is exactly the same as health insurance going up exponentially.

Well, a tiny bit better as with health insurance goes up while their performance stays the same

If you log in to your account & click on the type of DSL, it says that message.

What about the Swisscom Casa plan for 40/mo? Maybe that's closer to what you had before?

https://www.swisscom.ch/en/residenti...scom-casa.html

You have to scroll to the right on their subscription pages in order to see this plan.

I've changed to Sunrise, their slowest offering, plus their voip with no limit calls to fixed and mobile phones, and that is fifty something per month. No tv, no billag.
Be aware that paying for Billag does not have to anything with having a TV connection. Once you have a cell phone with internet, you have to pay for Billag. If you don't and they find out, then you pay WAY MORE!

Thanks for checking that out adibadi. It says "Surf the web with up to 2 Mbit/s." Current DSL mini is 5 Mbit/s. I assume with the 2 you'd all be a lot more peaceful without me being able to comment on EF. I have whingeing teenagers though who do gaming so going down a notch will not improve life. We're being held to ransom by these companies. Cablecom did the same * when we had their tv. They take away what you have already then charge you more to try to get it back.
