Satellite TV

I am just trying to set up a satellite system in the Tessin, close to the Italian border. Could someone confirm that the BBC/ITV UK channels are now on Astra 2E located at 28.2 E and that the footprint coverage still exists this far south?
Many thanks......

Re: Satellite TV

Down there you will need a 1.0m, possibly even a 1.2m, dish. In Basel and as far south-east as Zurich you can get away with 80cm but after that the signal falls away quite sharply.

With 1.0m you will probably have reception issues in bad weather and maybe at night (the signal is weaker overnight). With 1.2m (and maybe even 1.0m) you might have issues being allowed to install a dish that large.

This has some reception reports

http://robssatellitetv.com/astra2f.htm (using 2F as that has the weakest signal of the three)

Re: Satellite TV

Yes it's 28.2°, which is useful as it's about the last in the line of Astra satellites.

This could be useful: www.dishpointer.com but asBaboon states, you are on the edge of, if not off, the footprint...

Thanks a lot... Did the footprint, coverage area change recently? I seem to remember reading something to that effect a while ago.

Re: Satellite TV

Make sure that size dish is acceptable to your commue/gemeinde. We got queried by ours as someone had said they thought it was too big. When I measured it was a 80cm so was fine, but if larger we might have been told to take it down.

ses has a facebook page, and a home page. They changed transponders in early 2014 after a new sattelite launch.

Re: Satellite TV

I recently moved my 80cm dish that's on a balcony stand (in Basel) and I swear I watched DAVE last night but today I get no reception. I get 100% signal on other channels but nothing at all for the DAVE/DRAMA/Yesterday etc group. E.g. I get 100% for QUEST HD but nothing for QUEST or QUEST+1 or DAVE. I wonder if it's an ASTRA 2F thing. When I search online I get differing information. Maybe it's the clouds today. Does anyone else reliably get DAVE and if so what size dish do you have?

90cm is the largest width you can have without building permission, I used to have 90wide, 110 tall . But upgraded to 1.2m without building permission but nobody has noticed and I do live in a large 1 family house.

However rarely use satellite these days, so when I move will probably not bother taking the dises with.

If anyone wants a VisioSat 90x110 dish, I have a couple in the garage.

Re: Satellite TV

How Urgently do you need the work doing? Might be able to help, have a professional meter also a couple of large dishes I need to sell two VisioSat 110, which are 90 wide and 110 high so meet the 90 wide limit :-). But no time for the next 4 weeks.

Re: Satellite TV

I'm assuming the max size is based upon a permanent install. If you have it on a balcony stand I guess the only limit is the by the space available.

One trick in marginal areas is to skew the mounting arm (instead of the LNB) so that the dish points directly to the satellite.

Does anybody get the channel "Dave"? I get most others but not this one and a few others.
