Clarkson and Co - Grand Tour

The good news is no VPN or any other geolocation hacks to watch it, just clicked view and then used chromecast to watch it on the TV.

It's Top Gear but subtly different, if you liked TG then you'll GT, if you didn't like TG then you probably won't.

Re: Clarkson and Co - Grand Tour

I enjoyed it a lot but found the cinematography was found wanting compared to the BBC. Perhaps it was more geared towards the mericans

I'd take it any day over the BBC new top gear though!

Re: Clarkson and Co - Grand Tour

I thought the opening scene was great. I thought some of the discussion seemed a bit scripted and clumsy, but old Top Gear was similar. I will miss the epic challenges, though. Also, what's up with Hamond's goatee?

Re: Clarkson and Co - Grand Tour

It was okay, seems like Top gear with all the IP and copyrighted stuff removed and aimed squarely at the US market. Shall see how ti develops but certainly the press coverage was more hyped then the was delivered

Re: Clarkson and Co - Grand Tour

I was really looking forward for the three stooges to return to the screen. If I am brutally honest, this first episode didn't blow me away. There were certainly some good moments. I liked the intro as the three joined together in a magnificent drive in a battalion of various vehicles.

At the same time, it was somewhat obvious that they are still looking for their modus operandi in this new format. Many of the bits felt too tryhard and scripted. I certainly didn't like the bit where they were supposedly beat up by the audience, that was just rubbish.

Now the showcase of the things to come was certainly intriguing and there's a lot of potential. I'm just hoping that the (nearly) bottomless budget won't result in a thoroughly hollywoodised (is that a word?) thing that has lots of spectacular stuff but feels altogether too forced.

I liked TG where it was three blokes cocking about. Obviously it was scripted in the sense that there was a plan about the takes and scenes, but one could also feel that a fair amount was improvised and the personalities of the three shone through in a (relatively) natural way.

If they can maintain that in the new format, they have a winner. I'm willing to give them a chance and look forward to the next batch of shenanigans.

Re: Clarkson and Co - Grand Tour

As a first episode, I thought it did very well to bridge from TG to GT. You find them funny or you don't, I laughed at quite a few bits. It was a bit like watching the last Star Wars.. lots of cliched call backs to the past for those in the know.

Filming and car driving was epic, I loved the show.

Incidentally the holy trinity (using the same track and cars) was filmed by Mr Harris (On Cars) - gives you a better car comparison but with none of the fun ...

I really liked episode one, not so sure about episode two. It's not bad, it's just a bit different from what we were used to. Anyways: can't go worse than BBC's new TG.

Re: Clarkson and Co - Grand Tour

Thankfully I had the second episode on 'record'... watching it on fast forward I didn't stop once.

They've totally lost it.

Maybe a bit harsh. Certainly wasn't anywhere near as good as episode 1

Episode 2 was lame, I also fast forwarded parts of it... but no worries, still ten episodes to go!

Re: Clarkson and Co - Grand Tour

Yeah agreed that after watching ep1, it seems more scripted/forced. The killing of the celebrities was pretty lame.
But that said, all in all it still looks like it'll be a great show.. basically the continuation of TG. I was wondering whether they'd try and change things more, but it looks like they're just reproducing TG in a new tin. Could be worse...

Re: Clarkson and Co - Grand Tour

EP1 cool, EP2 terrible!

I really miss 5th Gear, for me it was way better than TG. Not only they had more down to earth sections such as "used cars of the month", but also featured true racing drivers that knew how to communicate with the audience.

hahaha, I think for non-native English speakers she is far from annoying. The problem is that in the beginning she was kinda cute but then she turned into a potato.
