2in1 laptops: MS Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga vs HP Spectre 360 vs Dell Inspiron

I'm in the market for a new laptop and looking for:

- Something powerful in terms of CPU and memory (i7 CPU and 8-16GB RAM)
- Not really intended for gaming so GPU not important
- Detachable keyboard/ tablet mode highly desired
- Must be SSD >= 512GB

I've come up with the following top 4 and was looking for anyone who bought them to comment on them.

Microsoft Surface Book: extremely overpriced. Technically an excellent piece of work and tried it myself in stores, a bit bulkier than expected but very easy to use and exactly what I wanted. But 3500chf for the same specs I get on a laptop for 1400chf max is just too much no matter the design.

Does not have HDMI and you definitely need to spend another 200chf to buy the Surface adapter as it has too few slots!

Lenovo yoga 900: good, sturdy but didn't like the keyboard and the way the monitor side of it is attached. Also, not detachable but folds all the way back. Not very impressed with the price although it's more value for its money at 1800 chf for the i7/16GB/512 SSD drive.

So far, a good contender as it's a decent 2in1 solution.

HP Spectre X360: More of a laptop than a tablet, good specs. Priced at 1750 chf for the full specs and also folds on the back. Very slim and nice design. Only 1 USB port and no HDMI! Other drawbacks said to be the glossy screen and the keyboard could be better.

Too expensive for missing all these ports although the hardware is quite good. Not for me though, I need to connect my monitor and all sorts of devices.

Dell Inspiron 15 7000: That is some impressive hardware with 7th generation Intel i7-7500, 16GB RAM and 512gb SSD. Folds in the back, looks pretty slim and price wise is the best value for money by far priced at 1200chf.

Complaints about its trackpad in some comments. Only serious problem for me is I can't find it anywhere to go and test it up close. No one has Dell laptops of 2-in1s so it's impossible to form a personal opinion. The other 3 I have all examined physically.

=================================================
Anyone here that has any of the above and wants to share their opinion?

Not sure if the OP was talking about the Inspiron 15 5000 2-in-1 which is 2.3KG or the Inspiron 15 5000 2-in-1 which is a brick at 2.77KG. the Inspiron 15 7000 is a games machine and is not a folding 2-in-1. But I could be wrong in my research.

Personally any 2-in-1 above 2KG is too heavy!

Re: 2in1 laptops: MS Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga vs HP Spectre 360 vs Dell Inspiron

@Troublawesome: What did you go for in the end?

I'm curious as I am facing a similar decision, I am in between the Lenovo Yoga and the HP Spectre but leaning more towards the Yoga purely because I think it is aesthetically more pleasing, and because the connections (usb etc) are on the left and right hand side instead of at the back which I think suit my needs better. I also prefer the aliminum casing of the Yoga. (some of the Spectres also come with aliminium casing)

The Microsoft versions I don't like at all, they are over priced for what you get compare to the others, the name is hardly anything to write home about and nothing that really scream quality. Am I missing something?

PS: I am mostly looking for something light and compact (12" - 13.5" max) but yet has enough punch if necessary. Although the punch can be compromised in favour of long battery life as I am not exactly gonna be mining bitcoins on this or doing any CPU / GPU instensive stuff. It will need to load up EF pages pretty fast though

Would love to try one out, just not sure I'm ready for the switch to an Android Chrome based laptop.

Did you buy online or is there a "physical" shop that stocks them?

I've had an HP Spectre x360 for 2 years now (bought when Windows 10 launched).

Not had any problems with it .... it's stood up very well to its keyboard being sat upon regularly by 8kg of cat.

Re: 2in1 laptops: MS Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga vs HP Spectre 360 vs Dell Inspiron

After debating between a Dell XPS 13, Inspiron 13 for last two months finally settled on the Inspiron for its ports. Went to Best Buy in the US to check the physical piece, and ended up buying the Spectre!!

Incredible Battery life. Been using it practcally non stop for 3 days now, genuine 10 to 12 hours.

Also, display very nice, touch screen with stylus even better. Pressure sensitivity of the stylus is as good as iPad Pro. Fairly good handwriting recognition too.

What version did you buy by the way? I realised very quickly that they have different versions with the "Spectre" label, not only the hardware configurations but also the "flip-ability" of the screen with the x360 being the one that can rotate completely to sit on the back of the base.

Several people at work have them and are generally not thrilled. I won't go into any software issues, as this is most likely my companies IT department screwing it up... but the connectors between the tablet and the rest seem a bit unreliable. Witnessed several times funny back-and-forth switching when a colleague tried to present over the projector.

I think you are missing this one on your list: http://www.porsche-design.com/Men/Po...-Book-One.html

I work with MS Surface and this is great!

Overpriced, yes and am happy that it's my working tool provided by the Company

I don't know the exact model num, but its i7 8gb 256 ssd. Flips 360 has a separate tablet mode with on-screen keypad, comes with the stylus at 59USD extra. But of course the US models are different than the Swiss. Even the DPS is higher specd in US for the same price.

They actually have it at the Migros Electronics in Zugerland... The price is completely rediculous and it's not even that nice!

Any experiences with Microsoft Surface Book?
Is its touchpad comparable at all with Macbook Pro? Any big cons?
I don't want an Apple PC because of the Microsoft/Windows ecosystem I rely on.

I have Samsung and it is fab. Some batt issues at first, had it replaced, but I think it was just a one off hardware fluke. It is a treat.
