Get your life back - say " no" to the new Swisscom rules

They want to sell your personal details to third parties. You have 30 days to stop them!! That will include Telephone and Internet contacts and lists of your Google searches!

Re: Get your life back - say " no" to the new Swisscom rules

Thanks for the heads up. Not received a letter yet, but will at least know about it if/when it arrives.

For non-German readers - rough Google Translate:

"100,000 Swisscom fixed-line customers have already received a letter these days. It is about a change of the general terms and conditions (GTC) and a general data protection statement. In a companion letter, Telecomriese informs about the re-use of customer data. Writing seems to be more confusing for the customer than enlightenment.

"I have not understood the content despite careful reading," explains a customer in the SRF program "Espresso". However, he suspects that Swisscom may pass on its data to third parties. To whom, however, he did not know. Whether this was legal at all, the listener wondered.

A Swisscom spokeswoman defuses the situation: The Data Protection Act allows to provide gender, age and place of residence without explicit consent, but anonymously for internal advertising purposes. The new terms would not violate these rules. This is confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Swiss Data Protection Commissioner, Espresso.

Shut down for 30 days

However, each customer has the possibility to ban the use of his data. However, a deadline must be observed. Upon receipt of the letter, the customer has 30 days to register with Swisscom. If he does not do this, he tacitly agrees to the new terms and conditions. This process is legally in the green, as the data protection spokeswoman explained in the report.

However, Swisscom is even more important this year in terms of customer data: data should be sold to third parties, the SRF contribution continues. This means, for example, telephone and Internet contacts or search words that are entered on the Internet. To this end, however, the customer's consent must be obtained beforehand. (Kat)"

We are the ENGLISH Forum after all.

As with all these sorts of posts, I am left thinking they are going to find a cure for insomnia if they delve into my online activity... or offline if it comes to it.

did not receive a Swisscom letter yet. Any template we can use to prevent Swisscom from selling your data?

Thanks for that. How do we know it's not for handy-customers too?

Always greeted the Stasi when the GDR was still "alive" and very actively monitoring calls from Berlin to wherever

Funnily enough, I don't have a big problem with "the state" getting more powers for data monitoring, for the simple reason that they have no great interest in people like me. I feel more protected rather than more threatened.

Commercial interests, on the other hand, want to thrash Swiss residents to the edge of insanity with calls and emails and text messages, trying to sell me sh1te I don't want or need. So thanks for the heads-up about SwissCom.

GDR/Stasi did monitor as much as they could to see if they could blackmail you....

And having grown up in a "NATO" family I am used to the government knowing a lot and I can live with that. However, Swisscom and the likes should leave my information alone!!

I ordered once from Oswald, bad idea........

Thanks for the reminder. I'd forgotten about that piece of potential toilet roll.
The blah blah looks to me like damned if you do & get the vaseline ready if you don't. Apparently I am signed up to received football news which is news to me as I have never had any interest in the game further than a good muscly footballers thigh. Basically if you don't agree to targeted marketing, you're laying yourself open.
(God job I haven't had a beer yet, otherwise I might get rude).

Is this relevant for Swisscom handy users too?
Or just "Festnetz"/TV/Internet?
