A friend of mine hasn't gotten any letters from Serafe. After binning the first few letters from Billag, years ago, he hasn't heard anything since.

..and if you just pay the bill as it is, will they let all of you (including the neighbors) alone?

Do you know if it's planned by SRF to close Serafe in the next years and start charging directly by Tax?


In my case I am opting out at the end of the year because I cancelled my internet contracts 3 months ago, I don't have TV, radio, tablet, computer or smarphone. And when I want to check something online I use my girlfriends laptop (it's by her) or at work in the pause.

I have to say that my life has changed dramatically without internet. I sleep much better and have more energy. I have started playing my piano again and I feel like more awake in my head. I cannot explain but it feels just great.

I hope it's not aproblem for Serafe having electronic keyboards (piano workstation) and a big HIFI equipment (no radio, no internet connectivity), isn't it?

Last question: Are Ebook-Readers allowed? It has wifi....

I've moved in my new house in February and still haven't received the Serafe bill to pay.

I called them and the lady told me - quite surprised - "But Mr. haven't you heard the news? We have/the Communes have made a mess and a lot of people like you are not receiving the bill because they are registered at the wrong address". (I read "20 minutes" every morning on the bus and never read anything about this)

So basically according to Serafe in my apartment instead of me and my wife other people live there and they have already paid Serafe (nice by them). They are not the previous inhabitants of the house and, after a check on the letterboxes, not even living in the building.

The solution the lady suggested was to contact the Commune and ask them to communicate to Serafe that I'm living in that apartment. Being in Geneva (Canton), my Commune told me that here all this stuff is managed at cantonal-level so I had to contact the OCPM.

They had a form on their site and an email address to send it to to rectify who lives where specifically for the TV License.

I sent this out a month ago and no reply from the OCPM, I do really would like to avoid to go there as the queue is always annoyingly long.

Today I wrote them to ask for updates, then maybe I will try to call Serafe to check if the thing has been solved and the canton never notified me (sometimes they do).

I would really hope Serafe doesn't make me pay some fine/late fee as I'm doing everything they said to fix this issue considering that their website states that - in theory - people should not worry about this as they should automatically send you the bills.

If I had, I would lean back in my chair and wait for the bill. Sooner or later it always arrives.

As with the new system, every household has to pay, obviously nobody has to register with Serafe anymore - as one had to with Billag. No bill, no debt, no blame, no fine.

One day the list of the commune will be correct and have you on it (probably even with "arrived at xx date) and that's when you get your eagerly anticipated bill.

In the mean time, got something fun to do?

Quick update: the OCPM replied and I will receive the bill in January from Serafe.

If I recall correctly with Serafe you pay in advance.
