Send them back their bill with handwritten letter stating that you have TV but don't speak any local languages and thus don't see the point of paying for programming you cannot understand. It worked for me. They left me alone.

It would be true though - I do not (yet) speak any of the local languages.

| | Serafe bill even I am not using it.
Hi all:
I just received a bill from Serafe (for radio and television fees). I am not using it at all. Do I still need to pay for it?

Can’t imagine why no one has raised this before.
You have a computer/tablet/smart phone = you can watch TV = you pay Serafe for the privilege...

And... https://www.serafe.ch/en/exemption-f...sic-principle/ | Quote: | | | | As a result of the change of system from the device-based reception fee to the device-independent household fee, all households in Switzerland are basically liable to pay the fee. Your invoice lists the names of all adult members of your private household required to pay the fee – they are jointly liable for payment of the amount invoiced.
The following households can be exempted from the obligation to pay:
- Households with persons who receive annual supplementary Old Age, Survivors' and Invalidity (OASI / AHV-IV) insurance benefits from the federal government
- Households with no means of receiving radio or television (no radio, no television, no computer, no tablet, no smartphone, no car radio, etc.)
- Households of deaf-blind people, provided that there are no people liable for the fee living in their private household
- Households of diplomats | | | | | |

If you are posting on EF then you have a device capable of internet & TV.... therefore you have to pay!

| | Serafe - wifi but that's it
Hi all - I am sure this has been asked already but I couldn't find the post in the forum.
I have wifi and a smart phone, but no TV, no computers, nothing. Am I still liable to pay this mafia?
In the UK the TV licensing mob is not allowed to enter your premises unless invited to. Can Serafe force themselves into your house to check that you have wifi? Can they check with your internet service provider that you have wifi?
Bastards. Just opened the bill this evening and this made me absolutely boil with rage.
I thought Switzerland was a common sense country - I am outraged. Who still listens to the radio and the TV??? If you can't survive on your own just die already as a concept.

Yes, it's been discussed many times, but it doesn't hurt to repeat it. Yes, if you have a phone and wifi, you HAVE to pay.
Think of other people who DO enjoy the high-quality, almost ad-free content from SFR (e.g. older folk who've been listening to it for 40 years).

Yep... get over it & move on. No one likes Serafe, but there is nothing you can do. My taxes go towards plenty of things I don’t use, like schools for example. Maybe it should be added into peoples normal tax, unnamed, then people would feel less aggrieved.

Formula 1 in HD and a few DAB radio stations (3 Fach, Couleur3 , SRF 3, Lora) and the price is not bad.
Albeit, the greatest upside is that TV channels don't rely on infotainment or pushing vitamins on viewers to survive. We all win with that.

Plenty of people still listen to the radio, watch TV and guess what - don't have a mobile phone either; now there's a surprise for you.
If you don't want to pay it then give up your wifi/phone, job done. Oh wait. You'd probably die of loneliness if you couldn't have your phone stuck to your ear all day long. |

The fact is that I could spend 365chf per year FAR better than that on things I actually use. The cost of Serafe is outrageous and this opinion is clearly popular from the many discussions online.
It's an archaic model that needs to change to reflect the new ways of consuming media, which for millions does not involve terrestrial TV or radio. I don't care if older people benefit from it, I don't want to be paying such high costs per year to subsidise things like that. 100chf would be acceptable... close to 400chf is certainly not.

And why should I subsidise spending on the military? I‘m sure operating an anti-tank missile launcher isn’t that difficult.

Shows the importance of the over 60 vote in Swiss politics.

I recommend that you join the Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail and Daily Express groups who are intent upon 'defunding the BBC' - the music sounds the same. Their message being 'no-one listens or views the BBC' (while millions tune in every day).
We did after all vote to keep the annual charge (reduced) to ensure we won't be overridden by bangbang.
