Billag Backdating - Backdated

When you get a postcard from Billag you have an option to register any receiving devices you may have.

In my case I wished to only register for the radio so I recently (March 30 2017 they recieved this) made my big 'x' next to the ' ich melde mich an fur den radio empfang' (I register for radio reception) and made the 'Datum der Inbetriebnahme' (date of commissioning) backdated to the 01 Nov 2016, backdated, to when I moved into my current property. I have not read anywhere that this cannot be backdated.

A couple of days later I get the new invoice which informs me:
they are not charging me 143.05 CHF from 1st April 2017 to 30 Sept 2017
They are charging me 8% MWSt 5CHF
They are charging me 451.10 CHF from 01 October 2016 to 30 Sept 2017. (I think a full year of TV and radio).

So, it appears they have only taken off TV for the period from notification until the end of 12 month term bill in end September 2017.

Anyone know why they are ignoring the backdate? It is rare to get a postcard for registration, I move places every year or two.

Any advice?
Anyone contested the new 8% tax?

Thanks all replies x

Re: Billag Backdating - Backdated

Have you queried it with them? You need to make it clear to them what period you want to start paying it from i.e. when you started being liable for the charge.

Re: Billag Backdating - Backdated

The backdating appears to have been done correctly as the billing period starts November 1st.

I think their charging for MWSt has been legal since about 2015.

You're right, 451.10 is the full-year charge for radio+tv. Radio only is 165.- for a full year. So make sure to contest the tv part if you don't use it.

Re: Billag Backdating - Backdated

I just realised Ive not paid since late 2014 when I moved house. Seems there has been some mix up as I moved out of the place I shared with my partner then. I guess for 2014 I am covered but I will owe 2015, 2016 & 2017?

Little bit concerned as to what to do. Ive no problem paying what I owe. But will they lump me what one bill for the back dated years all at once or is there some way to break the cost?

Appreciate any advice.
