Comparis and Sunrise

Hi All,

So found an awesome place, very happy.
Looking at internet now. I wont be watching any TV, I dont even have one. I was looking on the Comparis website here:
https://en.comparis.ch/telecom/adsl/...G_ADSLstandard
and they list Sunrise Home / Internet Startat 20chf a months with a 49chf set up fee. I cant find this on the sunrise website. Anyone know about this deal? I need some cheap internet and dont need the highest speeds in the world.

Any guidance very appreciated!

Nah, was just wondering why someone in London cares about Sunrise in Switzerland.

Think the one year of doing a teaching degree has rubbed off more than I thought

Actually, i have two friends who are teachers and both are VERY observant. Good eyes for detail. They were the best to give my CVs to whenever i was getting ready to apply for a job

Re: Comparis and Sunrise

Those prices are not up-to-date. Last month I started a contract for Sunrise Home / Internet Start, and the cost is 45 each month + 59 activation fee, as reported in the Sunrise website.

Re: Comparis and Sunrise

I just signed up for Green.ch Phone Basic + Internet Turbo, which offers naked VDSL with 15/3 mbit/s at a very competive 30.95 CHF/month. If you can do with 2 mbit/s, you do not need the Internet Turbo, and the price drops to 24.95 CHF.
15/3 should be enough for basically any task, maybe except 4k video and gaming. There is a study from Google that found out that normal surfing will not benefit from speeds above 5 mbit/s.
Since you do not have a TV, you may cancel your cable subscription, if such is included in your rental contract, and reduce the Billag subscription to the cheaper radio/internet package.

Re: Comparis and Sunrise

I think I should make clear that 30.95 CHF/month is the final all-in price. No cost for the telephone line on top, no cost for the cable.

As Swisscom stopped (or will stop, I'm not sure) phone connections, how will green.ch deliver?

Re: Comparis and Sunrise

What do you mean by Swisscom stopping phone connections? The line that green provides is a naked VDSL line with VoIP phone service. It does not need a Swisscom fixed line phone number.

Yep, I just checked, no phone abo by Swisscom needed any longer.

What I wonder is how do they - technically - get the DSL signal into your house? Still via the Swisscom cable and the phone-plug? I doubt they will pull a cable of their own into the house and I'm sure they won't be able to use the cablecom net?

addition: According to this they are using the old Swisscom-cables.
That means if one lives in the middle of nowhere and Swisscom could not pass the signal I booked with green.ch - green.ch still can't deliver.

Re: Comparis and Sunrise

They use the same copper wire that Swisscom or everyone else uses for providing DSL. Maybe they have to pay a wholesale rent to Swisscom or whoever owns the wire. And maybe they have their own DSLAM to connect the wire to the internet, or they rent it from someone. I don't think one has to care. The copper wire gets identified by you giving them your former fixed line phone number or if none exists (as was the case with me) an NSN.

They give you a two year contract, or a monthly contract depending on your preference.

That might very well be the case. Better call them and ask what speed they can provide at your place. If Swisscom could not do it, most probably Green cannot either. Maybe there is an alternative for you:

Yallo and Salt provide unlimited internet through 4G (you get a SIM card and a router where you put the SIM card in and the router provides wifi and ethernet in your home). Yallo uses the Sunrise network and is 29 CHF/month and Salt uses the Salt network and is 35 CHF/month. I would still prefer a DSL connection for the same price, but if DSL does not work and by accident you have good 4G reception from either Sunrise or Salt, these offers may be interesting for you. They really seem to mean unlimited, so you do not have to fear some "fair use" limit.

Thanks. I checked it, they gave me the "we're not sure" stuff.

But after I studied the technique they use yesterday, it's clear to me that it won't. Swisscom admitted long ago that the cables to our place are ancient, the distance from the next control center is too far (and that they're not planing to ever change that!!)
I'll keep an eye on any new developement though.
