Selling on ricardo

I'm about to post my first sale* on Ricardo in quite some time. I intend to require payment prior to delivery (or cash on pickup), as-is (e.g. no returns short of the device not working when it gets there). Is there anything special I need to know about stipulating such requirements in the ad, e.g. does that go against their AGBs or other terms of use in any way? My German is pretty competent, but reading through that kind of legalese kills me even in English.

*Incidentally, it's an iPad Air 2 64GB wifi space grey, if anybody is interested.

Re: Selling on ricardo

you can always add this: Jede Gewährleistung, soweit nach Gesetz möglich, wird wegbedungen, insbesondere sind Wandelung und Minderung ausgeschlossen

i would do that with pick-up only though. requiring pre-payment and no returns when the device is not working on delivery would sound a bit like a scam.

With that wording you're still on the hook if the device breaks in next 2 years. Being a private seller doesn't automatically free you from liability. And "No return" you don't even have to mention, swiss buyers don't have that right by default

"Keine Garantie" should be enough, or "Keine Garantie und Gewährleistung" to be more explicit.

Re: Selling on ricardo

Forget Ricardo. Use Tutti. It is less hassle and no selling fees. I sold a similar item a few months ago. I placed the ad late in the evening and by the following morning I had several serious buyers. I priced the item including postage, ( with a signature).

The buyer transferred the money immediately and I posted the item as soon as the transfer was credited to my account.

I dislike Ricardo's system of selling with a passion but love tutti.ch. It's easy and to the point.

Totally agree with the use of tutti.ch instead...I had better experiences with tutti.ch (as buyer and seller) than with ricardo.ch. Using tutti.ch is less hassle and more to the point

Re: Selling on ricardo

I got the impression that in general items on tutti cost more than similar items on ricardo. It is much harder to find a bargain on tutti.

We're getting pretty good results right now on a list of stuff on anibis.ch. Unless my wife is much mistaken and their website is lying, no charge to announce and sell. No English option. Cars get shunted to AutoScout, where there is a fee.

Re: Selling on ricardo

Just as an FYI, I tried Tutti and ended up not using it. They required a scan of the receipt before I could put my advertisement up - I guess they have high fraud rates with electronic devices or something. As it was a gift, I don't have the receipt.

I did put it on Anibis, so I'll see if it gets much movement there. Ricardo is, of course, an easy one, as is eBay. I'll try them all at various times and see where I move it.

Hmm very interesting that they do this, as I have never heard of any ad place doing that before. Great idea in principle, but as you say bad for anyone that received anything as a gift.

That's very odd. I just sold a used GoPro on there a few weeks ago and there was no such requirement. Did they email you after your placed the advert or did it block your placing it initially?

Your wife is correct, Anibis offers different advertising options, the entry level, which is the one I have used, is free. The fee for the paying version is to place your ad on the first page, plus it also allows you to insert more pictures compared to the free version which has a 10 image limit. There is no fee or % for a sale.

Re: Selling on ricardo

I have never put a receipt on Tutti even with items where there is a guarantee included. That is so odd that you were asked for that.

I wonder if it is something to do with being a new user?

After upload, there's a staff verification phase where they look at the ad. Either it's in truth automated, or someone was bored and waiting, because within about 90 seconds I got an email stating it was rejected by <name redacted> until I upload the receipt.

Mrs. Doolittle may be correct - it may be for new users. Dunno.

Re: Selling on ricardo

Incidentally, Ricardo turned out to be the best place for offloading it at a Swiss price. I set the price slightly lower on Anibis and got emails from people offering me 2/3 of that even, eBay saw no action, but the second time I posted it on Ricardo I got 3/4 of what a new one currently goes for.

I'd still recommend Ricardo as a seller's platform.

Re: Selling on ricardo

Tutti is nice, but much less traffic in my experience. I have the feeling it's more that people hunt idly for deals on Tutti but shop seriously on Ricardo. But then again I don't know much.
