Don't know if it's related but there's a renewed warning about a new cyber attack. Bad Rabbit.

I don't think it has anything to do with a cyber attack. Swisscom / Bluewin have been tinkering around on their Webmail system for years, with catstrophic results. The new Webmail editor is close to unusable, a real p.i.t.a., and it can even destroy large messages in the making. For some reasons it is even much worse when used from abroad.

I'm assuming that some of those program botcher-uppers have been changing some code that affected the spam filters, which normally work fairly well. I got about 200 spam emails in 36 hours, each of which could have been very easily spotted and blocked by any decent spam filter. The filters just weren't working.

Seems to be over now. No such messages in the last 24 hours. In other words, those "pros" fixed their own mess.

Sudden flood of spam to bluewin email

I've noticed a sudden flood of spam emails to my bluewin address, going back about 2 to 3 weeks. Fortunately, they all end up in my junk folder. They all seem to link back to dodgy dating sites and before you ask, no I have not signed up for these sites. In fact, I hardly ever use that email for registering for anything; all gaming sites, tech sites, sport sites etc are always signed up with my gmail.
Anyone else seen this?

Re: Sudden flood of spam to bluewin email

I have that all the time (and that all ends up in my spam box). No idea as I very very seldom use that email address

Edit: just checked, and yes, there was a huge amount recently

Re: Spam invasion@bluewin mail accounts

Have you activated the optional spam, phishing and virus protection in the Swisscom Customer Center ?

Of course, as a general rule, you should be careful about which sites you disclose your email address to. If you are in the habit of subscribing to content from dubious sources, you expose yourself to a certain risk. A site specialising in basket weaving, for example, would be a low risk. A raunchy porn site would present a higher risk.

Re: Bluewin Mail Spam attack

Given that you first raised this two years ago (threads now merged) do you not feel that perhaps you should have done something about it by now?
