Guys, I might go Cablecom soon. If you want me to refer to you, send me the details I need to fill in.
I'd be happy to be your referrer and claim my month free. I can also recommend it highly

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

I bought a Cablecom package in Interdiscount, Broadband (3Mb line for 49 a month, i think), Phone and digital TV recorder.

The gear arrived promptly, it's all plug and play, like LEGO, the support is swift (I had to call them for something, I can't remember)

The service is always up and fast, I'm happy. I've heard,or been told that they also keep upping the band, keeping existing customers happy.

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

What package was this? I can't find it on the interdiscount site.
And why buy it there? Don't you get all equipment from cablecom itself? I thought things like the digital phone were free?

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

There was a CableCom rep in Interdiscount.

All the gear was sent by post.

I got:

Highspeed3000 - 3Mb line (45:_/Month) including Digital Phone (6 months free calls to fixed lines)

After 6 months, 20:_/month for the phone

Digital TV Recorder 25:_/Month

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

Thanks, that is a good deal since I do not phone much so the 100CHF/month free is not much use to me.

Now I have to hunt down one of these reps!

look forwards to being harassed in any InterDiscount store, also potentially Fust too

But you can get the same deals on the internet, I would say

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

I've considered writing to Cablecom about their reps. I'm sick and tired of being harassed by those reps every time I go into an electronic store. I tell them that I'm already a cablecom customer. "Also digital phone?". Yes. "Also digital TV?". Here I lie and say that I already have it. It's simply easier than saying that I don't want it, because then they will try to draw me into a situation where they can explain to me how great it is.

It does get tiresome. When I'm in stores like Media Markt I sometimes get harrassed three or four times by different reps on the same visit.

ah yes, I know these ones. I had one in the Seedamm Center telling me that, because I refused to extend to Digital TV, I'd be able to see NOTHING in 2010.

Wow. Tell that to Sky in the UK and also I'll forget the services I'm pulling down with my Dreambox too

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

ok, maybe this is a dumb question but he, I am not a man

If you get digiphone with cablecom, can you use that to get ADSL with someone else like Sunrise etc.?

I guess I am asking, since the phone works, I guess you do have some normal phone cable, so ADSL should work too? Or am I overlooking something?

Cablecom provides broadband by cable, so if you get cable broadband, your phone will be connected to the modem, which is connected to your cable and you will connect to the modem for broadband as well.

The digital phone is seperate from broadband, so if you want to get your ADSL line from sunrise you can do that. It makes sense however to use one provider for both, one reason is that you get one bill, and with some cablecom broadband packages you get 6 months free digital phone.

They have a deal on at the moment that gives:

If you opt for digital phone without hispeed internet, you will receive CHF 600 worth of free phone calls or, more precisely, free calls worth CHF 100 every month for six months!

If you opt for digital phone with hispeed internet, you will receive a sensational CHF 1,200 worth of free phone calls or, more precisely, free calls worth CHF 100 every month for 12 months!

http://www.cablecom.ch/en/digitalphone.htm

Bottom line, you can get your phone from cabelcom and your ADSL from sunrise.

I would say ADSL over VoIP Cablecom Digitalphone won't work. You need that last mile to be served [and subscribed at 25,25 per month] by Swisscom....

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

Sorry, i didn't read the 'can you use that to get ADSL'

You wouldn't want to do that. If you don't already have ADSL and are looking to get Cablecom digital phone, get the phone and broadband. If you already have ADSL with someone else, cancel the subsciption and and get cablecom phone and broadband

No, I don't work for Cablecom, they work for me. Which is why I need to ask them why they don't offer existing customers their new phone deal! schmucks.

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

Yes but they pissed me off.

I wanted to sign up as a referred customer (with Lob R.) and went to the Mediamarkt store. The guy said oh that member4member system, oh well, yes it is listed on the internet, it is a mistake though, it does not exist.

So I signed up with him stupid me. Found out he was telling rubbish; I believed him because he was a supervisor training three people.

So I cancelled my broadband/phone as this pisses me off.

Now Sunrise have good deal (free wireless modem), hence my question, wanting to squeeze the best out of both.
But you are saying, the voip phone goes over a cable line, so no chance right? Oh well, was a nice idea

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

bottom line: you need a regular phone line as supplied only by Swisscom for ADSL.

I'd call Cablecom BILLING on 0800 330800 and bitch about it and see what you can get to keep you from going to the opposition. And I'd stitch-up the salesman at MediaMarkt - tell them the day and location and I'm sure he'll be spoken-to....

These plebs are all over and do try the hard sell. One tried it with me, Digital TV is the only thing I don't have from them and he was telling me about analogue switch-off etc etc. So I said I have Sky ("it won't work from 2010" - yeah right) and now I'd say to him "so can you offer me HD TV now, today?" and see the er squirm

yeah I did, I sent them quite a stern letter with all the details so he can be found.

But for all I know, this is how he was trained! After all, this saves them money

no, I'm assuring you that he is working on commission and frankly will lie to get you to sign up

but he just lost commission and I am also sure he's not directly employed by Cablecom ....

Re: Internet issues / choices in Switzerland / ADSL vs cable

Sounds like the salesman either didn't know about member4member, or wasn't able to sign you up with it.

I know someone who did this recently, you just phone up to order it and tell them the person who referred you over the phone. You both have to watch your bills though - cablecom may forget to pass on the bonus and might have to be reminded.

As Lob already said - you'll still need your Swisscom line if you want to go with ADSL. Sunrise might give you the ADSL modem, but Cablecom will always supply the cablemodem anyway.

You probably want to add a router to it anyway, and wireless routers can be had for under 100 francs anyway.

The nice part with cablecom is being able to say bye bye to the Swisscom line And anyway - did you read today that the government has buried their plans to privatise Swisscom, so throwing money their way is just propping up a state-run telecoms company...

Of course if you are really into saving money then you could avoid the extra 20 francs for digital phone and get a true VOIP phone - 044 numbers for 1.50 per month - just check Lob's signature

Ok, will look into the voip phone (for 031 numbers).

For people wondering, the sunrise offer is you get a wireless router for free with any 12months adsl (the router is nice, I have used it before), or 100 to spend at Fust.

This is a Fust offer by the way.
