You mean of course " why does Switzerland shun Amazon".

Re: Why does Amazon shun Switzerland?

not having amazon is indeed negative to being in CH. as is the crazy fees the post office charge to importing small things that aren't even available in the small local market.

however ... since this is about echo - i don't really get the point of echo. is it really easier to ask a carefully phrased question and get an answer with no ability to drill into it verbally? surely picking up a laptop or phone and typing the query is far higher bandwidth? and turning on and off lights etc verbally is pretty 1980's and adds zero value to ease of living or automation as far as i can see.

i'm all for connected devices, automation and remote access but echo and its ilk doesn't seem to offer me anything of value.

Well CH does have Amazon. But if you order anything where the border taxes are added then the prices go up crazily

it doesn't. 'some' things can be ordered from amazon.de/co.uk/it/fr (all the same anyway) but many things won't even ship to ch.

paying 20 odd chfs to the post office for every small packet where the duty is a few chfs it really annoying.

YEs many things won't. If you order from Amazon and collect in Konstanz then the savings will pay for a free train trip and back to Konstanz.( from Zurich )

Konstanz isn't particularly convenient from south of lugano! having to pick up from anywhere sucks quite frankly. the post are getting really lazy with me - they send email for collection and don't even bother trying to deliver things. later in the day the yellow slip turns up after they email saying they've left it. in the winter the local post office is barely open and they only hold things for 7 days.

About a week ago I oredered something from Amazon. A week later I got an Email saying that they received the goods ( this order ) that I sent back to them! I did not even receive the goods. They even returned the money to me. More than I paid for it!!

Things are starting to happen - Swiss addresses can now be chosen in the Alexa app. The latter isn't on the Swiss App Store yet though (iOS)

That happened to us recently. I didn't realise our doorbell was broken.

Amazon has now started delivering to Switzerland. That includes most stuff, all the way up garden furniture. Prime stuff is 2-day delivery, the rest takes relatively long though

Re: Why does Amazon shun Switzerland?

what they're still not delivering is Amazon Echo though :)

There is no CH store specific page though, and they were delivering some stuff anyway. So how can I "see" the difference? Are simply more articles shippable to CH from their DE store? Or should I rather go to their French store page as I'm in Vaud? :-)

for a short while, all the Amazon Prime stuff was available with 2-day delivery to Switzerland. Now it seems to have disappeared again. Looks like someone at Amazon pressed the button a bit too early :-)

Yes, I ordered something Monday from amazon.de and it was on my doorstep at 7am Wednesday morning

I still see Dieser Artikel kann nicht in die Schweiz geliefert werden on most stuff on amazon.de.

Amazon prime is a type of membership, isn't it?
But why would I want to pay a monthly membership fee to a shop?

Amazon.de basic service either delivers free for some products or has low purchase values to qualify for free delivery.

Sorry - what I mean is that the value of Prime at .com is that expedited delivery is free (for shipments to the US, where all my .com purchases go), rather than the usual hefty same/second day charges.

Free expedited delivery is my motivator for subscribing to Prime. The rest of the benefits are of less importance to me, so I'd need to see free expedited delivery to Switzerland before I'd consider subscribing to Prime (.de).
