Re: Why does Amazon shun Switzerland?

"customs outsourced this process a long time ago to Post, DHL, FedEx, etc." Good point. I missed that.
Then these outsourced companies will have to make suitable arrangements with their customers to ensure the VAT is correctly handled.

"Sender must put a form CN22 or CN23" Yes I know but there is no provision on these forms to indicate Swiss VAT was charged; I suppose at worst they could simply write that on the form?

In other news, Galaxus have just announced that they're now offering 55'000 products within the EU :-)
Yeah, one eshop I will not use anymore, ever. The problem isn't that they are consistently overpricing compared to other Swiss eshops. Bought V-Max e-scooter there. Lasted 3 months, then 2 weeks, then 4 days, each time had to send it back because it broke down completely during normal 2km work commute, usually leaving me in the middle of nowhere.

When I asked them last time if they could return me the money for obviously a very bad product, or at least give me voucher to their shop so I can buy something else because I got tired of sending it back and waiting for weeks without any feedback (it ain't a small package either), I got back a very aggressive response.

Basically if they will have any suspicion that I used the product in any other way rather than official usage guidelines, they will charge me for disposal of the faulty product (we're talking about maybe 5 months after initial purchase). Needless escalation to my polite request, since they have no clue how I used the product, quite different compared to usual "we'll check and let you know". Of course they didn't find anything wrong on my side eventually. But no offer to get money back/voucher.

As I said, never ever, plenty of other, usually cheaper choices.

That is what happens when you treat your employees badly, they have zero incentive to work harder for you and the time demands on delivery staff are already pretty tough. A postman has precisely 90 seconds allocated for each parcel delivery. They used to have time to deliver the post to the front doors of elderly folk and often have a quick chat, especially appreciated by those with mobility issues. This often meant they would get a gift at Christmas from the customers who were happy with the service. It was also a human interaction for isolated seniors and served to make sure they were ok, if there was no response, the postman would maybe even go back later to make sure the person was ok. All that is not possible anymore, little cost savings that have unexpected ripple effects.
That is the Swiss capitalism at its ugliest. And yet, it's accepted by the majority of the citizens, so...

Re: Why does Amazon shun Switzerland?

So annoying parcel delivery ( to a packet shop in Konstanz ) with Amazon. Many of their sellers dont have these numbers where one can trace where the parcel is. Amazon sucks!!

Re: Why does Amazon shun Switzerland?

Ilm not sure if it's been mentioned already, but now that Amazon are deaking with Swiss VAT they also seem to be deducting the VAT in the country where you're buying from.

Perhaps this shouldn't be a surprise, but it means that for many things it may now be better to get them delivered directly to CH even though we've still got a French address (which we've always used for deliveries before) and even when it may mean missing out on free postage within France.

It's not obvious, mind, and had me quite puzzled when I ordered something yesterday. Was 144eu with free delivery in France, so I selected the Swiss address just to see how much the postage would be only too see the base price reduced tp eu120 on the invoice, with eu11 import charges added (postage was still free as it happens). I thought there was an error until I realised that they'd just dropped the price by the equivalent in the French VAT.

Oh, and yes, we got a tracking number, just as we always do with Amazon.

Yes tracking number when Amazon delivers but with other suppliers not always. And when a packet dissapears and no tracking number then its a big problem-

PS. And would you blieve the only place I found Vegemite was on Amazon. And I received it yesterday.

Amazon have been doing that for a long time; I mean deducting local VAT and charging estimated Swiss VAT. Usually their estimate is too high and you get the difference back after some weeks.

Some of the firms that sell over Amazon also do that but not all, and some of them have very high delivery charges which means it is not worthwhile.

It is due to their delivery agent handling the Customs directly.

Re: Why does Amazon shun Switzerland?

Has anyone noticed in the last 6 months that when you select an
ITEM more and it the vendor DOES NOT SHIP to swiss... I wanted to
order some projectors absolutely 30+ vendors I searched refused to
ship to swiss...

Last year it was just a few vendors on amazon .de .fr. .co.uk .es etc
that refused to ship.. now its like 80% plus of them...
How to order things?

Is there some way to filter Vendors ONLY that ship to Swiss?

Thanks

Saw your reply to my post only just now. Yep, I agree with you. While the service to take nespresso-capsuls back kind of made sense to me when it started, the clothes collection didn't really as there are collection points you can throw them in any time you like. So after I noticed, the postman didn't like providing this new service, I stopped putting the bags out for him.
I remember thinking "next time they'll tell the employees to pick up the trash while here".
On the other hand the post has a lot of competition these days and looks for new income sources, which is more intelligent than moaning.

Most of "my" post-staff is still cheerful though, having a short laugh - or sometimes a quick moan - when delivering.

Nope, I did not notice an increase.
They probably all don't know where "Swiss" is. Neither do I actually.

Solution: Register with a post-service company, in your case in France. I do this with one in Germany. Simples.

Tried to register with DHL Germany-but its not possible-only for German residents. So I registered with Grenzpacket

Re: Why does Amazon shun Switzerland?

These businesses in Germany - are they mom and pop shops providing a package pick up service or regular PO boxes just like a post office?

I'm looking for one.

It's Grenzpaket (no ck in Paket).

I don't know them and see they offer to send it on to your Swiss address. Is that what you're planning with them? Report back how that works.

I pick stuff up at my parcel-service in Germany. In spite of not living far from the border, I coordinate my orders. So I add the "goodies" or cheaper stuff I desire to the things I simply can't get in Switzerland and visit them about 3-4 times a year.

Well I have always collected at their collection point in Konstanz. Works well.
And what I save in the delivery cost I use for the train fare to Konstanz

No easy answer, there are all types of these businesses.
One chain is http://www.deutsche-lieferadresse.com/packages.

If your supplier ships via Hermes then you can collect free of charge at a Hermes paketshop.

My view is probably in the minority, but there is absolutely nothing good that can come with Amazon expanding into Switzerland. I'd be happy if they promised to never sell a single item here.

What a deep post. And so substantial. I'm sure everybody will go "hear, hear, OP is absolutely correct". And why will everybody say that? Because your arguments are so convincing and informative and detailed.

Didn't they leave out Swiss VAT? Unless this was a book or something else subject to reduced VAT (2.5% or so) there may be a problem waiting to happen.

No, the Amazon price includes estimated Swiss VAT charges and is usually higher than actual so you will get a refund.
