| | english speaking professional satellite dish installer? Hi,
I'm looking to install a satellite dish in my attic flat but I don't think i can do it myself as there's no obvious place to put it. I definitely have got view of the sky to the south, but not sure where i can attach it to.
I'd like to get in touch with anyone providing satellite intallations services that speak English, any idea anyone?
Many thanks |

Hi galderz,
You might also want to mention that you'd like someone in the Neuchatel area - I know this because I looked up your profile. It doesn't hurt to say things like that sometimes - this is day and age of microsecond attention spans people don't hunt around your profile for your location, and you'd probably get a flood of replies concerning Zurich, which won't help you at all

a stand around 100 francs - sits nicely on the balcony....
cable to go through the window - without drilling - Media Markt
a compass
patience
a few beers
surely someone in Neuch has done this - do you know the Ajilon lot? I am sure some of them have crossed this "bridge"
otherwise installers will travel from Zurich but will charge you traveltime. Basel expats might know of someone less far away, or Geneva. Any satellite installer should be of assistance.

I put ours up myself. Very quick if there are 2 of you, one to adjust the dish, the other to shout when the signal picks up. Make sure the stand / bracket is well fixed first. There is no point standing and holding the dish to try to get a feel for the right direction - you won't be steady enough. I tried that in the hot summer 3 years ago, must have shed a couple of stones. As soon as I put the bracket up it took 5 minutes. You don't need to drill holes etc., just use a flat cable available from most electrical shops like Fust (as per Lob Rockster). All this was a heck of a lot cheaper too, an installation service will set you back around 500CHF. By saving that you can then afford plenty of beer.

You can do what I did and bring a small portable set out onto the balcony when twiddling the dish - then it's only a one-person job.
All in all, it's not hard so long as you have a good view to the satellite. as others have said, just get the dish mounted on a pole ('Patio mount' drilled into a paving slab) and twiddle the dish around in the general direction until you get a good signal. You can also buy cheap signal strength meters from the likes of Media Markt which might help too, as the one on the Sky box is a bit rubbish and slow to respond.

Any new installers about?
Desperately need help setting up my Sky. Il live in Baar but do not yet speak German.
If anyone knows of an ex-pat or local company that would find me a signal that would be great.
Many thanks |

I have heard tell of a man locally (Basel area) known as "Dave the Dish". Does anyone know his contact details as I will need advice on satellite installation once in Basel.

You could try using someone local .. it's what we did. You just have to tell them what satellites you want to be able to receive, and they provided the rest (including a free view box) and installed it at a much more competitive rate than the ex pat installer usually working in these parts.

Hey EF'ers,
Any recommendations for a English speaking fitter for the Zurich area? I'm in Glattbrugg and will also need the dish, cables, mounts (to be drilled into the wall) and connection plugs. I've brought my Sky+HD box from the UK.
Even better if this person is available prior to Xmas.
Thanks,
APx
