UPC Cablecom "Happy Home" plans and price increase

https://www.moneyland.ch/de/upc-happ...s-im-vergleich

The "Connect and Play" plans are replaced with "Happy Home" plans.

For example, the highest-performing plan is now called "Happy Home 500" (with 500 Mbps download speed and 50 upload) and costs CHF 139/month.

From the article linked above:

Quote:
A comparison with the combi subscriptions from market leader Swisscom and competitor Sunrise shows that the new UPC subscriptions are practically as expensive as comparable Swisscom subscriptions. The UPC subscriptions are only one franc cheaper than corresponding Swisscom products. The UPC subscriptions "Happy Home 50" and "Happy Home 200" each cost around CHF 4 more than comparable Sunrise products. However, there may be differences in Internet speed or TV offerings.
So congratulations, UPC! You're now just as expensive as Swisscom!

The upside is that Powerline adaptors are included in some plans, and that existing subscribers will get double the current speed with no price increase. There's also a "try 30 days for free" offer.

" HappyHome". What a stupid company this is. And its not Cablecom.
Its UPC! Swisscom at least gives value for money which UPC never gives.

i was on a 72 CHF UPC package until 1 month ago but cancelled because it was too expensive. that same package would now be 119 CHF per month.

happy that I changed to a 29 CHF fibre glass Sunrise connection.

UPC belongs to Liberty Global one of the biggest international Telecom companies in the world. They don't give a shit about ripping you people off with their primitive services and crazy prices that go up every year. At least Swisscom is Swiss owned. Make Switzerland great again!

I’d gladly move away from UPC but we can’t get fiber here and the fastest Swisscom offers is 98 MBit/s. From UPC I get a constant 488 MBit/s. We only get internet from them though.

You lucky devil

I would get 9Mbit down and 0.6Mbit up
And no, they're not planing to fix that. And they're not sorry about not planning it either.

I don't expect you to take my word for that

Re: UPC Cablecom "Happy Home" plans and price increase

You can get Happy home 500 for 99 CHF/month if you get:
- Internet 500: 450 Up/50 down
- The cheapest TV package they have.

I know cause I got it a week ago.

Still bad, considering Swisscom offers 1GB internet (500 up, 500 down?) for 70 CHF and no TV package, but considering where I live, Swisscom only had 50Mb/s option available, I'm glad UPC has this.

I seriously doubt average punters will notice any difference over 200Mbps.

500 and 1000Mbps are just marketing fluff...

So for Internet + TV, it's still the best offer, isn't it?

Re: UPC Cablecom "Happy Home" plans and price increase

I would argue that 50 Mbit/s should be sufficient for any normal household.

The bandwidth will comfortably run a couple of parallel IP TV streams and some websurfing by the side.

Cable TV providers have to provide their shareholders annual revenue increases. That's why you see UPC et al. employ marketing fluff and forced 'upgrades' to herd their revenue generators to higher yield levels.

A Zattoo account for 96.- a year and a cheap Internet connection (for example the cheapest Sunrise offer for 45.- a month) is all you that most people would need for Internet, landline and TV.

I went for that offer because I honestly don't care about TV. I haven't watched TV for the past 5+ years now.

Yeah but I'm not exactly a "normal" household
I game a lot so I need good connection. And I download enough that I care about the speed. Around 200-300 mbps is my sweet spot.
