Camera Shop in Basel

Hello

I would like to buy a new camera and like the Nikon d850 or one of the newer FUJIFILM X mirrorless ones.

I have two questions can anyone recommend a camera shop in Basel?
Any tips on either the Nikon D850 or Fuji cameras?

Thanks

Regarding what to go for: Nikon all the way. Not a biased advice, but a result of a good research and numerous tries. For many, like me, a camera is a camera, but it looks like you are into photography and take it seriously.
And it is a good thing you are buying in CH, though you marginally overpay, you will have all the bases covered when it comes to warranties, guarantees and other things that may ensue with the use.
Where to buy: anywhere close to where you are, at a shop that has experienced staff - if here are any issues, you'd be able to have it sorted out efficiently and not trek for hours to get assistance.
It is a costly hobby, so you need to cover all the bases when it comes to life after purchase. But then again, you may know this already...

Re: Camera Shop in Basel

Thanks very much for your replies

I have bought stuff at Digitec and found their customer service to be an excellent example of a bad example. I am looking for a camera shop where I can get advice it seems that there are two mains camera shops in Basel

https://www.fotomarlin.ch/ and http://www.fotohaus.ch/

I would be grateful for anyone who has experience with either of the two shops

Thanks

Another vote here for Foto Marlin in Aeschenvorstadt. Excellent customer service.

Re: Camera Shop in Basel

I bought my fujifilm x-t20 from fotomarlin.

I looked at the equivalent Canon and they also showed me an Olympus. They offer good advice and the camera kit was cheaper than digitec. They also offer a 3 yr guarantee. The accessories (spare battery etc.) may be cheaper elsewhere, however.
The staff are helpful and a couple speak English. I can recommend them. And the Fujifilm mirrorless range!
Nikon and canon want to protect their larger format camera market so I personally don’t rate them as high (previous camera was Nikon and I also owned canon gear and had my heart set on the Camera mirrorless model. Thankfully x-t20 came out and changed all that.)
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I'm sure you're asking innocently, but that's a great question if you want to troll photo geeks.

The Nikon 850 is superb and is a lot of camera with its 45 megapixel full-frame sensor and 4K video. It has a price usually more than double anything in the X-Series range (mostly APS-C sensor and something like 24 megapixels).

If you know you want a Nikon, then the 850 is great. Otherwise, depending on your experience and existing lens collection, I'd probably suggest an X-Series.

The Nikons will pretty much only work with lenses designed for the Nikon F-Mount and it's normally not possible to use an adapter to fit other lenses onto it because of the flange to focal plain distance (although there is no shortage of great vintage and modern lenses in F-Mount, e.g. Zeiss - the 28mm 'Hollywood' is beautiful). As an example, I've got a Leica Noctilux (a lens with a very distinctive and desirable look in photos), and I can't fit it on my Nikon D7000, but can on my Sony A7s with an adapter (and could also on an X-Series).

As to shops: I've used them both and they're fine, but I would prefer Fotomarlin.
