Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi everyone,

Would anyone be able to tell me what type of fiber cable connects to the outlet? I called Salt but the person I spoke to didn't have that information. I would like to order a longer one ahead of receiving my box, as I'll need more than 5m for where I want to put the box.

Thanks!

Salt Fiber Box - not able to load FB pictures and Videos,"resolving hosts" issue

Hello,

I setup SALT fiber a week ago (Canton of Vaud) and has been struggling since. I am not an expert and did the setup without changing any settings, except change the SSID and password.

The issue is mainly with loading FB pics and videos. the rest seems to work well. But the LED for WLAN keeps blinking constantly and most often, connecting to the router seems to be slow. The download speed has not exceeded 100mb, nothing of what was promised. Currently I have both the 2.4 & 5 Ghz WIFI networks active.

Hope to hear from a helpful soul. THanks!

I guess I'm not the only one having an issue. I noticed my instagram feed on my phone wasn't loading correctly. The pictures would "halfway load", I'd see someone updated a story, but when I went to click on it it wouldn't load.

Now most pics in my facebook feed won't load either.

This issuing the APPs on the iPhone. I switch to cellular and everything works right away. I rebooted the salt box, my phone, and reset the network settings on my phone, but none of them worked.

Seems like a weird Salt issue to me.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Well, facebook feed on my laptop isn't loading either... hmmm

Facebook and Instagram are owned by the same company... maybe it's a weird routing issue between salt and facebook/instagram. As soon as I switch to a new network it will work great.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hello all,

I have also noticed problem loading Facebook and Instagram since this weekend.
It only concern Salt Fiber and not Salt mobile.

If you use a VPN it then works perfectly.
Note: The rest of the connection works at almost 1Gbs (with my hardware) and nothing is buggy, except those 2 sites.

I've just sent a Tweet to the care crew to warn them about a possible transit problem with one of their provider (cogent ?).
I mean, Illiad is used to that... (see Free and Youtube).

One question though, what are the specification of the 5Ghz wifi band ?
I only find the 2.2Ghz ad which is I suppose the not useful addition of 2.5 + 5Ghz bands.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi all,

Same here (Lausanne). Facebook & Instagram not showing most images (!) since Friday, and 0800 support number, kindly notifying they don't support you during the weekend!

I guessed it should be a problem with ipv6 cdn of FB, meaning an IP engineer should be able to spot the problem and having it corrected within 1 hour tops.

I also struggled a lot to find what's going on with 5.4GHz wifi, finding that you should configure 2.4GHz to use 20MHz bandwidth or legacy mode to get 5GHz advertized...

It's good to have very good priced fiber connection here in Switzerland and I had it up and running in a week, I just would expect stronger support...

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Salt did something this morning after the last message (7h) so it should be working now.

We should be able to ruin our life on Facebook again.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Yesterday Salt sent me first invoice by post and charged CHF 2.- for it. How to change it to e-invoice?

Salt Fiber box use: LC/UPC-SC/UPC cable. I bought a 10m cable, works fine.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Two things to update:
1. I asked to transfer my land line number from Swisscom to Salt, it took around 3 weeks to complete. During the period, I called Salt twice, every time they told me to wait and wait, nothing helpful.
2. Them temperature of the Fiber (can be seen in the Fiber box setting) is around 63-65C these days, I don't like this high temperature even I have two years warranty, so I put a fan (computer case fan, 5V 12cm) under the box. It is very helpful, now the temperature is 58-59C.

What's the TV menu like in comparison to UPC/Swisscom? Nice menu, easy to flick though channels and record etc?

Thanks

I personally don't like apple tv controller, the worst controller I have ever seen!

To switch one channel, you have to do this on the touch pad: slide up, press, slide up/down, press. Guess what, to switch one more channel, you have to this again, all the steps! Plus, you should consider touch mistakes, it's every easy to make mistakes on the touch pad.

To switch one channel on Swisscom controller: +/-. That's all!

Oh man. I cancelled my UPC for this.. Doh!

I changed position of the fan to the upper side, the result is fantastic!

Sorry telling you the truth, although it's only my personal feeling. In any case, you can try apple tv in apple retail store.
