Fax over IP works different (and not all machines can do it) what connection did you use previously, and what kind of machine do you have?

I didn't have one before. I don't think I am faxing over IP either. With Salt Fiber I also get a phone line, which in theory should be enough to use for fax. I have a HP 3833 printer/scanner/fax. I follow the guide here https://support.hp.com/us-en/product...ment/c04935044.

Does anyone have an idea, how to get rid of the CHF 99,- one-time setup fee at Salt for the fibre?

Yeah, don't get a salt fiber contract.

You get a steady number, but you call over the fiber, so you call over IP, getting s steady number does not change that. So you would need an analog telephone adapter to start with.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Has anyone considered getting a new 802.11ax router? We could perhaps benefit from the higher speed, although I don't know how we could connect the fibre box from Salt to this new router. I guess the router would need a fibre input due to Ethernet's limited capabilities. In theory we could get WiFi in the Gbps.

Just a thought.

The salt box has a 10Gb/s ethernet port and no optical out port, wireless its theoretical max is 2,2Gb/s

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi guys,
I have purchased this NIC Card from EBAY and wondering how do i get
the 10GB Connectivity to work with the Salty Box.
It seems that I will need to use a SFP+ Converter right?
from the Salt Box, RJ45 CAT7 cable to RJ45 SFP+ Converter or?
Any advise?

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/401486401173

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Given that 10G cards are cheaper than 10G converters why not buy a card with proper connection?

There is no such thing (at least as far as I know, and I should). They do not make a 10GB SFP + to 10GE Base-T. I think it has to do with the power etc for the Phy on the port. I have seen a little separate box, but why? just get an RJ45 10GB card.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi everyone.
Last days I am having some problems with my fiber.
Currently the fiber is really fast as always -it literally max out my Gbit LAN at 950mbit/s during downloads- but happens quite often that the connection goes time-out.
I mean: I click on a link... it loads... loads... nothing happens... if I refresh (or re-click on the link), instant loaded. Sometime takes two or three refresh.
I tried to change DNS, reset everything, nothing changed. Of course I also tried with other browser, and also the mobile gives me the same problem when connected under wifi.

Any clue?

TX: 4.338 dBm
RX: -14.156 dBm
Seems fine.

I am having EXACTLY the same issue since Friday. Everything was great before then. But now, all of a sudden, with no changes anywhere in my setup, I still get great results on speedtest, but when trying to load simple websites it just takes forever. Or sometimes a page opens partially, failing to load some images. Then if I keep retrying once, twice, it works. Same goes for streaming services. It takes forever to start streaming now, and sometimes it just doesn't - but if I keep retrying it eventually starts. Absolutely maddening.

Of course, I did all possible tests, using my Windows PC, a Mac, both connected through ethernet cable to the Salt router, as well as on iPad, all giving the same poor results. However if I switch to the WIFI from my hotspot using my Swisscom mobile, then all the sites and services work perfectly. So it is obviously some problem with the Salt Fiber router, or something that Salt is doing on the network.

I called Salt Fiber tech customer service, and after 30 min of random questions the agent said the infamous line "I'll transfer your case to our specialized tech support, and they'll call you back". Of course, they never did. Or worse, they call your phone, let it ring once and then stop (I can recognize the Salt number). I am starting to get really concerned. This is a service disruption, and a fair cause to cancel my contract, but I am pretty sure the bastards would try to fight.

Anyway, here are my Fiber box readings, in case anyone has a clue about this:
TX: 4.218 dBm
RX: -13.391 dBm
Bias Current: 9.270mA
Voltage: 3.390V
Temp: 67.187C

Had the same problem few mouths ago, some websites just took ages to load or even completely fail to load. Contacted the customer service which was quite useless. After that took it to social media (I think was twitter) and they solve it. Apparently they were doing some testing or upgrading in my area, hope it helps.

Thanks for this. Today, after 4 days, I finally received a callback from Salt. I thought it was a technician, as they had said when I called reporting the issue. But no, it was an agent, making the same, the very same questions that were asked when I called them. I had to repeat the whole story to hear in the end: “ok thank you, now we have enough information for the technician to analyze it and afterwards he will call you back”. No! There was no new information given! I just repeated what I had already reported in my first call! To hear the same “now wait like a good lad and will call you back”. Meanwhile I have an unusable connection at home.

These guys are super frustrating. You are right: social media is probably the only way to go.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Well for me is not so tragic... I mean, some pages from time to time goes time out, ofc I noted the difference from before because before the connection was really really fast.
Mine is still usable.

BTW I think is a shared problem, normally in this cases in few days/weeks should be solved...

EDIT: not properly usable.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

We have the exact same problem since a week. I've reported it to the salt care crew on twitter (it works much better than calling the helpdesk).

By reading the various tweets https://twitter.com/SaltMobile_Care/with_replies it is happening to a lot of us and, one thing seems to be common : The last firmware update to v1.01.15 build42

So yeah, maybe report it as well if you have same problem with this firmware so the tech team realize it is a shitty version

Indeed this sounds likely. Was wondering about the reports, since in the city of Zurich I do not have such problems at all on the Salt Fiber.
Looking into the salt box (in advanced settings), I still see a firmware v1.01.14 build37 here, gladly no update so far.
In the settings menu point "administration" there are also some possibilities to save/restore settings and a reset to factory settings, but not sure if this is able to reset/downgrade the firmware.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

We are experiencing exactly the same problems... also with the new firmware. I called support, they opened a ticket, got back to me with many questions, haven’t heard back from them thereafter...
