Re: Salt Fiber Box

Good evening,

I did not read the whole 500+ thread but searched for password and router to no avail - does anyone have their paperwork handy (my husband isn't sure where he put it) and can tell me the default router username/password? I looked on the internet but it's not admin/admin - am a bit afraid to factory default router as have no idea what it entails for configuration.

Thanks so much,
Katerina

Hello Katarina, the default password IS admin/admin. They recommend you to change it as soon as you connect though. Are you sure you or your husband haven't changed it? In case, I think a factory reset is the only thing left. The configuration loaded will be the same as the one that the router had when out of the box, so it shouldn't be a problem

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi gaglians, thanks for your quick reply - he's not technical enough, and I wasn't here when it was installed, so I guess it'll be the 30-30-30 reset I read about unless you have another suggestion. (It's so funny you mention the replay stuff is Italian - it seems like ours is all French, even though we're in the German part of CH).

Have a good night,
Katerina

Hello Katerina, yeah weird. I checked my instructions and they say admin/admin. And I set a new password, so for sure I managed to use the default one at least once. Anyway, behind the router there should be a reset button (close to the power port). If that only reboots the router, then you'll have to use the 30-30-30.

You might want to hold off on updating the Apple TV software a while.

It doesn't work well with the Salt TV app. For instance, it becomes harder to tap to change the channel up or down. Also, the replacement remote (if you have set one up) no longer can send the up or down tap using its up/down arrows. Most inconvenient. I realise that it was already not comfortable to use the replacement remote to change channels (particularly channel down, as it summons the audio properties pull-down) but it is now impossible.

Together with the odd decision to remove all English channels from the Channel menu of the Salt TV app (except for the English group and a few in the Kids section) it makes it hard to navigate to my English channels.

Hard to see how salt can come up with their own remote without basing it on the Apple replacement remote protocol that involves the arrow up/down function.

My mother-in-law would have no chance using the Apple TV 4K remote.

Anyway, I think this one is on Apple who have somehow screwed up the arrow up/down functions.

So apparently you need to double-tap to change the channel.

Wait, that means that you have to:

- single-tap to bring up the channel banner
- now double-tap up or double-tap down to change the channel

The arrow keys on the alternate remote no longer work for channel changing, even if you have already single-tapped to bring up the channel banner. Perhaps they eliminated this function due to complaints that you could go up but not down in this fashion.

So if you want to change the channel, say, from SRF-Info to Sky News like I do on my box (I can quickly pick SRF-Info from the "All Channels" group, and Sky is the next one in my favourites list) you must at the very least double-tap up. Sometimes that does not work, either. Wait a bit and do the tap-once for banner and double-tap up and it should work.

My goodness...

Re: Salt Fiber Box

IMO anybody should be able to survive the much criticised apple remote, and IMO there is a bit much lament on minor points.
As for the switching of channels, indeed needs 2 taps now (in Salt TV), not such a bad idea IMO so it doesnt collide with other taps in same place. But you still can switch channels with a single swipe to the left/right.

Did you get back your recordings?

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Salt TV as a system, Apple remote included, is pretty good.
If you need media control buttons outside of a play/pause button you can put together a second remote (Apple TV has a function for that under the Settings menu).

Swiping left/right does nothing on my remote. You can change channels using the swipe up to bring up the channel list and then the alternate remote can be used to pick the channel. Without a direct way to use the alternate remote to go one channel up and one channel down the whole thing is hard for me to sell to older people, which was my original point.

The constant messing with the Channels menu is annoying. Briefly a "Favourites" group had appeared under Channels. That was a good idea. They should bring it back.
"All Channels" showing a copy of the German group is fine. Just put the Favourites group right under that and we are golden.

No, after a long while I gave up on the recordings and made new ones. They had plenty of time to do something about it. They had texted us once saying they were still working on it and I allowed them about another two weeks. Then I just went ahead and made recordings. My thought on this is they have had enough time to discover the problem and who expected them to find the old recordings?

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi all, thanks for the continued info/advice...

WRT the favorites - you need to login to tv.salt.ch (on a laptop, I think it would be difficult on a mobile phone), create your favorites there, and then while in the apple tv go to Menu-Settings and toggle the top "Channel List" to Favorites.

Also, in case you're new to the service, it appears that most of the Italian (RAI) channels and some of the French ones give you the ability to change the default language, so you can listen to the original (english) language instead of the dubbed version! (swipe down, right swipe to Audio, etc)

Yes, that is the Favourites list that I meant.

Briefly this entire list was placed in a group under Menu/Channels. Very useful. I'd like to have that back. Like many people here I mix the German and English channels together a bit in my Favourites list.

I still have my favourite channels list available. Is yours missing due to the same problem as your recordings missing, or is it a separate problem?

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Not sure it's really a good thing, from SaltMobile_Care today: "If you want to keep a fixed public IPv4 address, the costs would be of 10.- ^AL" (https://twitter.com/SaltMobile_Care/...27369758089217 and the corresponding thread with the usual ironic comments from init7 and ungleich).

Open questions:
  • what will happen to early subscribers who have a static IP, for example in the 51.154.* range ? Will it just disappear on the next update
  • does anyone here already have the new set of IP's ? (non routable 10.xxx + IPv6)

Re: Salt Fiber Box

My guess is, there is nothing at all in it.
IMO just lightly misspelled, should say "If you want to [del]keep[/del] have a fixed public IPv4 address, the costs would be of 10.-" as stated in their page. IMO There won't be any changes.

And I wouldn't give too much on the technical understanding from support (and twitter ...) side, as shown in the case here there was just a misunderstanding.

Much ado about nothing, a speciality of Init7 ...

On 13. Oct, again it is suggested the bridge mode will come with the next firmware release. And they offer to selected users to test it in advance:

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Anyone heard anything about static routes on the Salt box? I find it annoying that such a basic feature is still missing, 1+ years after the launch.

Side note, if anyone is interested and didn't discover this yet: some of the sports channels in the basic Salt TV package offer an English soundtrack (at least on some events). Just go to the "upper" menu (no idea how that works with the Apple remote, it is a down-arrow on my Logitech), left-most option (I think it's "Options" or "Audio") and select the second thing listed after German - on one channel it was "mia", on another it was "ttq". I could test this yesterday in two football games - I think Barnsley vs. Swansea and Lyon vs. Dijon, on two separate channels.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

New firmware v1.01.20 build54 . Reboot the box via administration to get it.
In "expert mode" Network>LAN>IP Address Reservation seems to be the new feature, but not even sure if it was there before. The equivalent to "static routing" I would say. Cannot see anything else as "new".

Re: Salt Fiber Box

LAN IP reservation is there on my build (v1.01.19 build51).It's not static routing unfortunately - the generic equivalent would be "static DHCP" (always respond with the same IP address to a request coming from the same MAC address).

Indeed another user also confirmed the "feature" above is already present in the older firmware version.
Well then I don't see anything new. Do I oversee something?

Hey, cool, thanks for the good news CHnuschti ! Can you tell what kind of IPv6 we get ? I hope it is also static... Still got the old firmware (and won't reboot the box now as not at home the next weeks and I need my VPN :-)).

Cheers & happy testing!
Yes it's a static IP v6
