There is a point above which faster speeds make no difference anymore, this point is not at 1gb/ps.They give you a new one which is capable of much higher speeds.Get rid of your ancient machine.
As said before, get rid of your ancient equipment and step in the modern world, and stop nagging about things on which you lack knowledge and clearly are either trolling or just want to nag. Me and my wife have normal new laptops that are very easily capable of speeds far above 1gb/ps, My SSD writes above 3gb/ps and my wife has two of those in hers.

And as said before this higher maximum speed is much much cheaper than the slower connection as advertised by the competition, but hey if speed is overrated, just pay double for only a tenth of the speed if that makes you happy.

another silly post.

Salt TV Deutsch (yes, this is for the German speaking part) states that there are 250 channels included in total + 28 premium channels.

It doesn't say that there are 250 german channels.

Well I would read that otherwise.

How can this be confusing?????

https://fiber.salt.ch/en/channels-en/

Given that everything you had to complain has been put down to being incorrect, nonsense or depending on ancient equipment from long forgotten times I can only assume that you now find this a great product since you have not brought up a single valid point to complain about.

Why? Thing is that UPC is pretty expensive, their 500 down, 50 up is 100 chf, fiber7 has 1gbps symmetric for 65 and that is a top quality service... it's all possible.

By the same reasoning Fiber7 is to good to be true, yet it is real.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

So when I read here: https://fiber.salt.ch/en/support-en/ it says:

The Salt Fiber Box, which is provided to you for free, is a modem-router with wifi and an embedded multimedia server with UPNP (Universal Plug & Play). The router includes advanced functionnalities like VPN, Port forwarding, NAT, DynDns, Firewall, Parental Control, DMZ as well as URL blocking.

I suppose this is an implicit promise and I will be able to have port forwarding to work.

I do notice I still need that little connection box in the apartment. there is since last year a big box from the local power company in the basement, but nobody (and certainly not the landlord) felt compelled to connect all the apartments in the building. Let's see if the cost of that cancels the benefit of a lower price...

You might want to see with the other tenants or the landlord if a combined effort would be possible, this reduces the price per connection mostly with a nice amount.

Turns out that Salt would cover the costs of connecting the box to the apartment. Seems nothing to stop me then!

For those that have signed up already: do you get contacted after your order regarding when the service should start, or do they assume you want it ASAP? I would like to switch from my current company on June 1st but there's no field to say that while ordering.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

I ordered it (without OTO, service available at the address, I just need the connection to the appartement inside the building) 5 weeks ago (5 weeks expiring tomorrow). In the meantime I did not get a single call, letter, email.
I called them around 2 weeks asking what is the status they told me it is a long process, bla bla, and anyway if I do not have an OTO my vervaltung need to order it (?!), so I called them: no they are not responsible for that. Then I remembered that in WInterthur Stadwerk was organizing the cabling, so I called them and asked whos responsibility to do this: they told me Salt would need to order the OTO from them. Then I asked would it be possible to look up whether it was already ordered to my appartement? They said no it has not been ordered yet. OK. I called them again telling them it should be them, answer: they will check it. Since then 3 weeks passed and nothing happened. Today called them again, I had to wait more than 10 minutes for the answer, the lady told me he forwarded my request to the technicians, so now I am waiting what will happen, but I am sceptic about their efficiency...

So yes, you are not alone...

The Swiss ain't the quickest on these things, and indeed a few diff party's are involved.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Does anybody know what is the exact process for them?
Who do they need to contact and what do they need to exactly check/validate?

They already claimed that at the given address the service is available,
so I do not understand why this exhausting validation process is necessary.

Any update on this situation?
Pretty scared about that. I will need soon a fiber connection, but I can't stay for months without connection...

100% guarantee you will only have if you keep your existing connection and cancel that when the other one is up and running. (Or cancel when you have a sort of guaranteed date, and add some days to that.)

The point is that currently I am moving to another apartment (or at least I am applying to...), so I don't know what I am going to find there and if there's already a fiber connection into the app (at least the building are almost all covered).

Give the landlord a call or just drop by the current renter, explain the situation and ask if you can get the number on the box (if any), If you do not move your current line along and hope for the best it indeed might take a long time.

Today (1st may) got an sms and email that validation done.
On the salt fiber page the status is still the same (validation ongoing), except now I see an OTO number (either that is a dummy OTO as Stadtwerk told last time that they need to order it like this, or the final one... I have no clue).
In the email they say that I will get contacted in the next days by their technician who will install the socket. Let's see.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

I have Salt Fiber and I can tell you it has given me nothing but headache.

I would recommend everyone to stay away from this. At least for the time being.
They have such a high cancelation fee that I am stuck with them, but honestly, this sucks sooo bad.

Yes, the internet is pretty fast (not 10GBIT fast) but only when it works!

I am having issues with my connection (can't play WoW or Diablo because of constant disconnections) from day 1 (even a speedtest was impossible to do).
I've opened a case with Salt and after calling them 3 times (over a span of 1.5 weeks) they finally decided to actually have the technical department look at my issue.
meanwhile 4 weeks later, it is still not resolved.

Why is this happening? Because the salt fiber box is new tech and early bird customers are the beta testers. When asking why it takes so long to fix my issue even the customer service tells me it's because this is a new product (of which they don't have enough to ship you a replacement if it's broken)

If I were you I'd stick to other companies for a year at least.
Then SALT might have figured out how to actually run the service they advertise....

Seriously, SALT!

p.s. made this account just to complain, because tomorrow is the 1 month anniversary of my case being 'pending' at salt and it drives me nuts that I still can't even rely on a stable 10mbit connection, let alone 10Gigabit
