Dont change to Salt fiber. Mostly this fiber box has a lot of disconnections. It is not really stable, the low price might alure you to it, but its not worth it. If you have the chance take INIT7.
Look I had Salt in my first house: great speed, never had an issue.

Moved to a new house, Salt was not available, so I picked INIT7.

On their website they said that my house was coverd by their Fiber7.

Then they call me and tell me they can only offer me Hybrid7 (which is basically them renting a Swisscom cable) for a couple of months just in time to activate Fiber7 to my building and I will not pay the activation fee as I had to wait.

Connection is worse (20%) than Salt was in my other house, well I say "they are renting a Swisscom cable, so I guess Swisscom slightly reduces their bandwith. No problem, in a couple of months I should get the super Fiber7 ".

So months passes and I keep writing to their support asking when fiber7 will be activated to my house. They are quite annoyed "Sir we told you we will write you when it's available, stop writing".

Ok a year has passed. Salt now is available to my new house. I decide to switch as the Init7 service was quite sub par. (add into the mix the TV app, very bad compared with SaltTV).

The Init7 customer service writes back to me: "Sorry you want to leave. We will activate Fiber7 in two weeks and as a special offer we will do it free of charge": a) how sudden after a year Fiber7 is magically activable in just two weeks after they kept telling me I had to patiently wait for them to write me b) It was already free of charge as my original offer so they are not really giving me anything I already had

With this poor response I decided it was it. I will happly go back to Salt in a month and never look back.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

My Salt Fiber Box had a firmware update after a recent power-off/on. Apparently, Salt released firmware v1.01.38build105 at beginning of May. But, no UI/features changes.

Just FYI, in case, anyone wants to update.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Thanks - I just checked and my box has the updated firmware, but our connection has been SO lousy lately, worse than usual. Does is seem to anyone else that there is a particular problem with their DNS? (yes I have changed my DNS settings to some of the public ones but doesn't seem to make a huge difference)

nothing like this here, but this kind of issue can have so many reasons... Is it the same if you're connected by ethernet for example ? (-> if not, the wifi would be the issue), or maybe you just have many power users connected to the same GPON access (you share your connection with up to 31 other customers), etc. Good luck anyway

Yes, I've also noticed a MASSIVE drop in connection reliability in the past few months. It appears to be a DNS issue. I'm not happy.

double-triple NAT and use your own DNS. That's what I do and it is very stable.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hello, the salt fibre box has a 10Gbps Ethernet port.

I bought a TP-Link Archer AX90 which has a 2.5Gbps WAN port and connected it to the 10Gbps Ethernet port.

Setup worked well, the AX90 downloaded a new firmware and installed.

But then the AX90 doesn't share internet when connected to the 10Gbps WAN port. It only works when I connect it to one of the 4 regular Ethernet ports.

Is there a way to make it work when connected to the 10Gbps Ethernet port, so that at least I get 2.5Gbps into the AX90 to serve WIFI?

Thanks

Re: Salt Fiber Box

This is - most likely - an issue with the AX90 configuration. Double check the IP address that the AX90 gets from the Salt box and the IP range the AX90 offers to its clients (make sure they aren't the same). If you use static IP addresses on your clients, ensure they come from the AX90 LAN range and not from the Salt one.

Also check the speed at which the AX90 connected when the cable is plugged onto the 10 Gbps on the Salt box - is it 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps? I did have a 2.5 Gbps USB-C adapter earlier, but had that facing my LAN rather than the Salt box. Some NICs can only negotiate 1 or 10 Gbps, but no intermediate (2.5 / 5 Gbps) speeds.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi! Trying to log in to the admin console of the box (Salt Fiber Box X6) but the combination admin/admin (login/pw) does not work. Did Salt change the default login for the new box?

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Looks like they did. The admin default password is printed below the box, along with the Wi-Fi passkey.

Thanks - I'm using dynamic IP connection to the Salt box. It has 192.168.1.x and all the connections to the AX90 are 192.168.0.x No static ip.

The cable is plugged to the AX90 2.5GBps port. When this is plugged to the salt box on one of the regular Ethernet port, internet works. When plugged to the salt box 10GBps port, no internet.
The AX90 could still download a firmware update via the 10Gbps port for itself. It just can't share the internet, it shows no internet coming through from the Salt box

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hello,

It's now working, connected to the 10Gbps port, after I rebooted the AX90.
