I am checking if exists any router with the same fiber port + 10gbit ethernet, but seems not.
so far the only thing what I found is an SoC evalboard called MacchiatoBin.
unfortunately that is sold only for engineering purposes.
if you find an SFP+ based fiber transceiver for XGS-PON than it might can work (unless Salt implemented something special on their router)

Ok so, small update from me:

22.05 order sent
23.05 order accepted
25.05 modem + appletv sent
28.05 1st delivery failed, I was not at home
31.05 modem delivered

I just checked the status online and the shipping has been updated to "delivered", so they "know" i have the modem. Hope to get activated soon!

PS regarding temp: mine on idle, after about 30mins, only 5ghz network on with 1 user connected, is around 62°C

Re: Salt Fiber Box

I guess with Salt your experience can widely vary... My impression is, after reading some of the reports here and by my own experience, that if there is any glitch with your order along the way, you are toast, you go back to the end of the line forever. That was the case for me in Zurich. Here is a brief history:

05.05.18 - Ordered Salt a few days prior to move in (OTO available apartment with fiber service from another provider - Init7 - to previous tenant)
09.05.18 - Moved in
11.05.18 - Checked on my account on Order Status, it seemed to be stuck. Called Salt, and they claimed that the previous provider hadn’t released the OTO from their systems. Talked to previous tenant, Init7 guaranteed him that OTO would be released on that same day
17.05.18 - Received an email from Salt saying that OTO number hadn’t been released. I contacted Init7 directly this time to force them to release it, they were very unfriendly and tried to push back, but promised to have it released on that day, and they confirmed it in writing by email. I informed this to Salt and forwarded the email from Init7
21.05.18 - I called Salt to check out the status (on my account online it seemed frozen in time), and they said OTO still hadn’t been released. I called Init7 this time more aggressively, said that I had rented an apartment which included the OTO, and they were trespassing by not releasing my OTO, which is part of my rented property. I asked the landlord for help, which worked out great, and on 22.05.18 the OTO was finally officially released with external confirmations, and Salt was informed and confirmed.
23.05.18 - I received a message from Salt saying my order was accepted (?!?) and that I should receive my Fiber box and Apple TV in the mail shortly. However, from that day on my account started to be shown as “disabled” whenever I tried to login. I called Salt, and they said it was a sign that the connection would be activated shortly. When? 1 week? 1 month, 1 year? “We can’t give you any estimate, you just have to wait now”. Seriously. That was their reply.
24.05.18 - I received a message from the Post saying that a package was being sent to me by Salt.
28.05.18 - I received the Fiber box and Apple TV in the mail at home. Called Salt
to check if they had an estimate on when the connection would be activated (and my account would be enabled again). “We can’t give you any estimate, you just have to wait now”. Seriously. That was their reply again.
31.05.18 (today) - Lost patience and installed all the equipments. Everything green (including the Fiber led), except for the WWW led: no Internet connection yet. Called Salt again: “We can’t give you any estimate, you just have to wait now”. Seriously. That is the ONLY reply they ever give. They really don’t care that you are almost 1 month without Internet at Home. They have no idea when the connection will be activated. The technicians are gods and no one dares ask them.

An additional info: I was a bit worried about the temperature issue that was alarmingly raised here. But after checking my own Fiber box temperature (steady state after it fully heated up - but without Internet connection), and also the Fiber box from a fortunate friend who has Salt (and had no issue with his installation...) with Internet connection, and even some of the posts here on this thread, they all seem to have the same temperature: 62 oC. This seem to be the normal “by design” working temperature for this Fiber box (it increases from room temp and stabilizes at 62 oC).

Re: Salt Fiber Box

To be honest this isn’t even all of my concerns. The “Login failed because user is disabled” is another one. How long will it take for them to activate my account (and thus my TV access) after activating my connection?!?

Honestly, I’ve never seen a Telco with such poor customer service in my life. Not in the US, not in the UK, not even in South America. For crying out loud, even in freaking Brazil they are able to estimate how long things take, even if it is a huge range, 6-8 weeks or something, even if they have to lie... Because at least when they lie and then miss the deadline, you can call them on it, and it means that resolution is kind of close by. With Salt, they give you nothing.

“How long it could take? Say any number, just to manage the client’s expectations, that is freaking customer service 101... 1 week? 10-12 weeks? 1 year? Anything to make me stop flooding your call center with calls every 5 min, it would be cost effective for you if you did (again, customer service 101)”.
“Sorry, we can’t give any estimate, we have no idea, you just have to wait”.

It’s like in Salt the acronym SLA is internally forbidden. And with no other customer care channels to appeal to (Twitter inexistent, physical stores useless, etc).

Re: Salt Fiber Box

to me after having OTO and router it was about 3 weeks to have it activated

so my timeline was:
22.03.18: order placed
07.05.18: OTO installation (after several discussion with Salt support, that whos responsibility to order OTO socket)
08.05.18: Router box arrived
25.05.18: Connection active
28.05.18: Salt page updated that connection activated

I can understand your frustration.

The only thing I refuse to believe is the UK/USA thing. Notoriously shite customer service

Oh, and I completely agree with you there. That’s why I mentioned my previous US and UK experience. Because even through all their unhelpfulness, and having to explain the same issues over and over again to different agents, etc, etc, never have I heard from their customer service over there what I hear from Salt, already at post sales, with everything ready for installation (fiber connection on, equipments installed, etc), a “now you’ll just have to wait” as an answer to the simple question of “and when will my connection be activated?”.

And that as an official policy, as it clearly is with Salt, it doesn’t even seem to be unhelpfulness of the agent. What it looks like is that by design their technicians don't have to give (or don’t have any communication channel or tool to do so) to customer service any information on queue lines, waiting times, etc. Screw the customer. He has to wait patiently, maybe for 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years, who knows? Maybe your order will fall through the cracks and get stuck because some minor requirement wasn’t fulfilled. Just wait patiently. Don’t call us, we’ll call you.

This is just bonkers. I really hope their actual service is better, because it is pretty clear that if any customer support is needed... well, I’ll “just have to wait”.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi everyone,

I had no issues with my salt fiber subscription but interestingly for the last two days I cannot stream youtube videos on my ios devices including the apple tv as well.

My smart tv and laptops can play youtube videos with no issues but the ios devices get stuck. Anybody experiencing the same problem? or any reason why this could happen?. (btw I tried with multiple iphones, apple tvs and ipads and they work fine on 4g or on another wifi network and the problem appears only while connected to salt fiber.)

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Guys, do someone of you received the first invoice??
Because currently, I only got access to fiber.salt.ch/myaccount and there's anything there related to payments/invoices etc.
In the meanwhile, in the main page, the same account is not working: it is pretty clear that they have added the fiber but is not integrated so well in the website, so I was wondering about how to receive it, to pay and so on.

I recieved the first bill a few days ago. It comes by post and the salt help center told me that they will integrate the online bills in the coming months.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hey everyone, just my quick experience with salt!

I ordered my box 8 days ago. The tracking system never updated as it always said "validating order", but the box was shipped and delivery was attempted on Wed, but I was out of town until today (Friday).

I picked it up, plugged it in, and it worked! about 4 hours after I plugged it in, I got an email that it was activated! 8 days start to finish isn't bad.

My speeds with wireless are around 600Mb/s up and down.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi all,

Hoping I haven't come to the party too late here. Have just moved to Zurich myself.

I also purchased Salt Fiber with mobile contract package. So far very happy.

i ordered my Salt fibre on a Tuesday and everything was good to go in my flat by the Saturday. Compared to my UK experiences of broadband this was a godsend.

Speeds are ok - not getting anywhere near what I could be getting.

My current download speeds are:
54mbps Down
15.74 Up

(I do go through a VPN - tested without and speed did not differ that much without)

Will be testing with a lan cable in a few weeks as want to start online gaming but for the most part I find the speed fast enough for my streaming needs and most importantly - consistent (no downs at all in the first 1.5 months of having it so far touch wood!)

Few questions to people here:

1) Does anybody have the correct link so i can go directly into the settings on my Salt fiber box? I thought it was http://salt.box but this does not seem to work.

2) Do people find the salt fiber box sufficient for their internet needs or have they changed to a new fibre box to get the most of the speeds salt offers?

3) Does anyone have troubles connecting their mobile phone to the router? My Blackberry Keyone connects but says no internet...very odd. Laptop perfectly fine.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Hi,
I'm having the same problem. Youtube does not work anymore on iOS/Android TV apps when connected through Salt Fiber. It still does if I activate my VPN on my iPhone or if I access youtube on my computer. Did you get any solution?
