Re: Salt Fiber Box

Not available at my address in Geneva but they say "soon" .. would be interesting to see what the competition does?

Swisscom could only offer me 40 MB/s and UPC Cablecom up to 500 MB/s but worth the wait if it happens in the next year.

Wonder if the others will drop their prices

In some weeks/few months they will bring the new cable from the street into the homes, I absolutely will take this, unless the competition will come up with even greater things.

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Looks an impressive package and offer, what a marked difference. I am with Net+ previously TRN, who are cheaper and better than your Swisscoms and Sunrises, but if something better is out there it is good for the consumer and push the others to be competitive.
I am a Salt customer...ex Orange...so I benefit with further discounts...and it is already available in Nyon, dead chuffed I am.

I tried it at two addresses here in Geneva and currently for both it says "coming soon" or available to you soon.

I just ordered UPC cablecom 200 MB/s but this offer makes this look like a joke. I am guessing it might take 6 months to be available but will sign-up ASAP.

Just tried another address and it is available immediately... ho-hum so wonder how long the "coming-soon" are ... no time soon I am guessing

Did they reply anything? I am considering the same. Less than half price for better product almost sounds too good to be true...

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Very attractive. I would wait until my current 1 year contract with sunrise ends, perhaps they sweeten their deal soon to compete with Salt.

My apartment has fiber optic and Salt can provide..

Interesting ---

Not useless for users like myself that use e.g. the VPN client and policy based routing on a second router.
VPN -> You can simply port forward (if that'd be possible and if box has public IP) while doing a NAT on more capable router. Routing is a different issue, true.

Yes and no, it depends You have to pay billag for TV if you have a IPTV account (even if it is free). This means that you can watch those various streaming and even SRF materials online (as well as youtube etc) that do NOT require a login. Also apparently billag goes away from next year on.

Additional:

And billag for radio has to be paid if the computer is connected to the internet.

Why would you call it inferior if you yourself have zero experience with it?

Re: Salt Fiber Box

Their earth shattering TV offer. ( German Channels ). 70 Channels! And the half of them are not even HD! And you dont need 10Gbps to watch TV.

Supposed to be 250 included German sender. Where????

Speed is overrated.

There is 1GB max of most router switch.

But there are also the network cards of Engeräte usually "only" 1GB support.

There are the (mechanical) hard disks that can not write so fast.

The reason they give 10Gbps is just marketing, for most of us is like if they say "unlimited speed", the limit is in our devices. But for that price (50 CHF), you can't even get 50 Mbps in other companies.

If your issue is that they give too much speed, you can pay 110 CHF in UPC and get 200 Mbps.

Do your research next time: It shows very clearly on their site: https://fiber.salt.ch/en/channels-en/

No it is not, tell this to countries or regions where a normal speed cannot be achieved. There is a point above which faster speeds make no difference anymore, this point is not at 1gb/ps.

They give you a new one which is capable of much higher speeds.

Get rid of your ancient machine.

As said before, get rid of your ancient equipment and step in the modern world, and stop nagging about things on which you lack knowledge and clearly are either trolling or just want to nag. Me and my wife have normal new laptops that are very easily capable of speeds far above 1gb/ps, My SSD writes above 3gb/ps and my wife has two of those in hers.

And as said before this higher maximum speed is much much cheaper than the slower connection as advertised by the competition, but hey if speed is overrated, just pay double for only a tenth of the speed if that makes you happy.
