Fiber7/Init7 Router poll/suggestions...

Dear EF,

In order to enjoy the new offer from Fiber7 to allow free use of IPTV via Apple TV and their app, I am thinking about upgrading my current router setup.

It seems that the Apple Airport Extreme does not support Multicasting / IGMP as when I try to use all I get is a "black" page when loading the App.

So, two questions in this post:

1) For those of you that do have Fiber7 service, which router/setup do you have currently? and have you tested if it works with their IPTV app?

2) I understand that the Fritz!Box 5490 they recommend would be the "right choice" for the investment as it connects direct to the Fiber and will let me use all I need.

However, since I am willing to invest a bit more and "future proof" my setup by going with a more robust router that might give me better speeds, distance and still let me take full advantage of my Fiber connection as well as the IP TV, what should I get?

I saw the Fritz!Box 7590 was a more modern router, but, I was unable to make it work even with basic setup, so I am curious to see if anyone here uses this router with Fiber7, which I assume the answer is no.

Moving on to other routers, I saw that Netgear Nighthawk R8000 seems to support their IPTV. This seems a bit more recent/robust/refreshed router than the Fritz!Box 5490, especially since I already have the TP-Link MC220L connection.

Also, I saw their new Version, Netgear Nighthawk R9000 (X10) (a lot more expensive), brings some other fetures that are interesting (for me). Since the R8000 work with IPTV from Fiber7, I think its safe to assume this one would too, right?

So, I just wanted to get a sense/pulse of what are you "Fiber7" customers here in the forum are using as router, and if anyone has any experiences with the models I mentioned above, or other models...

Thanks in advance,
inZug

We have Fibre 7 but don't use there IPTV service, but do use another IPTV service. I have TP-link and a netgear 8500 all works fine. Didn't like the Fritz because some things you can't set up yourself, can't remember what they were of the top of my head.

You can't go wrong with industrial grade hardware that is available at consumer prices: Ubiquiti continues to be excellent in this space.

https://www.ubnt.com/edgemax/edgerouter-x-sfp/ available here https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...outers-4678794 will route your internet at full speed and give you anything you need on the ports.

Pair that with a https://unifi-nanohd.ubnt.com/ available soon here: https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...eaters-8345092 and you're set for a setup that won't ever cause problems.

Or get the Edgerouter X SFP and plug whatever Wireless Router you have, configured as an Access Point, it'll at least get you up and running. The ERP-X will leave any consumer routers (that cost a lot more) in the dust.

Thanks for the feedback... I am still unsure which way to go, and have been thinking of the netgear. R8000 or R9000.. i really wanted new tech... but reading on Amazon some reviews make me afraid of spending $$$ and buying a lemon...

Thanks, I like your suggestions and need to research them a bit more, as I'm not currently familiar with them...

Just research the best ones "(Google "best router 2018") and see which consistently come top of tests.

However you don't need to spend 400chf, you can get very good ones for around 230chf from ASUS etc like the ASUS RT-AC86U which is very highly rated https://www.toppreise.ch/prod_505821.html

To use any router you need the Init7 fibre bundle from Digitec which has all you need to send the fibre signal where it needs to go (I bought it too a couple of years ago): https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...59248?tagIds=7

I have init7 fiber. Comes with the Fritzbox 5490 which, IMO, is quite good. I didn't go down the specialty router route.
The Fritzbox suits most of my needs quite well. I dont have TV. Just the internet.
It gives me a really stable and good LAN and VPN as well for accessing my network while on the go.

Never had any complaints. Everything works seamlessly without any problems.

Same router here on my previous location... zero problems.
And Init7/Fiber7 is also very good, probably the best provider i ever had in my life. Support was good, friendly.. Cannot say one single word against company.
