Cancelling Swisscom - I want to keep bluewin email etc.

Hi,

I have sent me letter of cancellation to Swisscom and will be terminating my contract with them soon (moving to Salt Fiber). However, I want to keep my "Swisscom login" which gives me access to my bluewin email, myCloud and Docsafe. All of these services are available for free to people with no Swisscom contract, just with less storage space.

So I called Swisscom and asked them what to do to prevent losing my Swisscom login and with it, my emails and the stuff I have on myCloud and Docsafe. They told me not to worry, that everything should be OK and I should be able to keep everything, just with the storage space reduced. But I'm still a little worried - I had read somewhere that someone lost all these services the day they left Swisscom...

Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance!

My advice is to ask Theresa May, she's good at this sort of thing.

I have the same concerns so would alsobe grateful for experiences on this. I am considered getting the email offer only that they have. Think it costs 9 CHF per month or so.

I was locked out of all my email. lost everything.
Swisscom was of no help.
I highly suggest doing some kind of back up. Of your emails
I am not a tech person
I did not do it and lost all

Always, always, always back up your data And backup your backup, and back that up offsite. . Otherwise it is not a question of if you will lose everything but when.

Data storage is dirt cheap, programs are literally free.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I called Swisscom and also chatted with tech-help and they assured me I could keep everything, but I'm a natural pessimist so i prefer to tripple-check. Of course, I will back up everything.

Sorry to hear you lost everything, kari.

Regards

Re: Cancelling Swisscom - I want to keep bluewin email etc.

I have experience on this. Although I left Swisscom 2 years ago, with great pleasure, finally being able to leave those monopolistic b****rds. If you are subscribed at swisscom, you have an online account. There, somewhere in the account under i.e. "email", you have the possibility to transfer them to a kind of "free email address". The process/menu point is called "abtreten" in German (= to transfer). I did so with 4 of 5 of my email addresses without problems. One of the 5 had to be kept there, was not transferable, probably due to technical reasons. They still work today 2 years later. But I don't use them, I can only confirm that the "incoming" channel works.

The Swisscom hotline then told me, you can "transfer" only 1 of the 5 addresses (you were eligible to then), but obviously that was not true, i transferred 4 of the possible 5. Also they said you'll be able only to receive, but also that seems to be uncorrect, just tested one of it 5 min ago (over POP3), still working. But there might be restrictions that it does work only on "national" level within Switzerland. Don't exactly know, you'll have to try.

EDIT: also my swisscom account online still exists, able to login, but of course without subscription it's practically empty. As for Docsafe or Icloud I can't say, never used them.

regards

Re: Cancelling Swisscom - I want to keep bluewin email etc.

That's what I did:
1. send written cancellation letter to Swisscom, to cancel everything (internet, tv, fixed network).
2. after I received confirmed cancellation letter from Swisscom, I called customer service, asking about my bluewin email account. They guy is very helpful and told me he can convert my bluewin email to a free email.
3. after the termination date, I use my email account as usual.

Thanks for sharing. Question: how did you convert your bluewin email to a free email?

I had 3 bluewin addresses. I managed to convert 2 of them to the free plan but i don't see how to change the main address to a free one.

Thanks.
