SIM card for remote monitoring

Anyone have a recommendation for a prepaid sim card under the following use case:

- will be left at an unattended location on a sensor
- the sensor will send a SMS report once per month or once per quarter

therefore best if:

- credit does not expire for long periods of time
- SIM is not deactivated due to 'inactivity'
- ideally SMS message resets any inactivity period, but an outbound call is also acceptable
- SMS messages are cheap (or alternatively, data rate is cheap)

Re: SIM card for remote monitoring

This may suit:

https://shop.m-budget.migros.ch/de/m...sim-karte-3in1

You get 10MB data free per month free. 5 SMS per day free then 10 Rp.
To stop the SIM card expiring you have to occasionally (I think every 6 months) make one chargeable transaction (say sending 6 SMSs in one day)

Don't confuse it with this with a very similar name:

Re: SIM card for remote monitoring

me.anon beat me to it.

IIRC credit and SIM are canceled after 12 months of inactivity, and the free SMS are available via their website only, no free SMS via SIM. And you get a few free MB for data each month. Again, IIRC.

Watch your bills though. There was a case recently were such an SMS was stolen and put into a phone.

In any event, I would make sure that you are on the Swisscom network so you are guaranteed that it will work.

One option, via one of Swisscom's subsidiaires, is Simply Mobile (pre-pay). You will see that the credit does not expire etc.

Here is the DE link: https://www.simplymobile.ch/de/mobile-prepaid
