Microsoft patches and updates generally work, what has changed is Windows as a Service and this is a big shift.
...
I don’t work for MS but yes, their software has been the mainstay of my career.
It was the mainstay of my career too.

Windows Update used to be pretty damned good, but it's gone downhill since just after 8.1 came out.

(I'm just struggling with a machine which has no space left on the SSD because 1803 created partitions and swallowed all the space - I really wish the owner had asked me to look at it when the problem first started)

Why should they when there are thousands and thousands of beta-testers out in the wild. You know what they say about banana ware? Delivered green and ripens at the consumers.
I've been Windows user for years but I got tired with the countless inefficient updates (Windows updates has been always incredibly slow). When 8 come out I said good bye switching to Mac only to discover that it's also immature as hell. Well, since the summer I'm running Fedora Linux and I'm very happy with it so far. Windows and macOS are constant Beta nowadays, full of bugs. Linux has always been a Beta, however in open source world releases happen when the source is ready, not when a corporate deadline comes. It's strange but the quality is on Linux side.

Re: The latest Windows 10 Pro October update

Just did the October update today.

No pain! Just gain!

Works like a charm.

Thank you MS for such a great job.

Also for taking certain members offline, even though it was only short term.

Re: The latest Windows 10 Pro October update

I lost mouse and keyboard and can not access the bios. This is on a PC I rarely use, so it may or may not have to do with the October update, but it happened around that time.
The repair disk didn't seem to be launched/read either ...
Does it sound like an software or hardware problem?

Well I lost all signal to the monitor. Had to pull the PC apart and play with the CMOS jumper. Then I got a signal again. This might help in your case. It resets the BIOS.

MS really stuffed up with this update.
