Cancelling cable connection after getting a fibre

I recently subscribed for a Salt fiber and my fiber connection is up and running. I was wondering if I can cancel my cable connection i.e. ask for the sealing of the cable plug? The cost of the normal cable connection is usually included in the rent (telereseau) and costs, at least in my case, 35 CHF/month. Since I don't use it, I would like to cancel it. I found a news article online which says that if you have a ADSL or other internet connection over the phone line, you should cancel the cable connection not to pay it for nothing (in French, https://www.cooperation.ch/blogs/le-...double--61958/).

I also read from another source that the price of the telereseau was recently increased to cover the costs of building the fiber network infra. So my only concern is that is the fiber plug somehow related to the telereseau and would they also seal that if I cancel the cable connection. Has anyone experience on this?

Re: Cancelling cable connection after getting a fibre

Not related in my case and I could cancel it without any concerns. In some (many? all?) cases, the cable network is owned by one provider (typically Swisscom or UPC), while the fiber network by another (typically the local electricity company).
Give your (former) cable provider a call and ask them for instructions. In my case, they said I didn't need to do anything as they would disable the outlet remotely.

I cancelled UPC a couple of years ago and they said they didn't need to seal the cable outlet. I think I still can get TV on it if I hook it up.

Could well be possible. Previous owner of our flat had sockets in 3 rooms, only one was sealed, he was though still able to watch TV using the other two. Neighbours have told us that he also connected himself up illegally at least three times in 10 years.

They dont seal anymore. At least not UPC. Thats why I can use the radio part for free

You have to cancel it over the Landlord. Contact your landlord. There is a form to fill out but I cant find the link to it. It costs nothing to seal it.

The fible connection has nothing to do with the cable connection .

In your case the costs are included in your rent so you proceed as follows:

"Tenants who do not need the cable connection must notify the landlord in writing. It is best to send a copy of the letter to UPC or the local cable network operator at the same time. The lessor may continue to charge the fees at the latest until the next termination date according to the rental agreement. The tenants do not have to pay anything for the termination or the sealing of the cable socket."

Some regional providers still do. Here the signal is via a box at the corner of 3 properties, so it is always active, they said they can't deactivate it from their side unless 5 (!!) properties whose connection is routed via this cabinet thing all don't want the signal anymore. So the sockets in the properties have to still be sealed individually.

Yes, I found the form already. I will go ahead and contact the regie to seal/terminate the connection.

This makes fiber connections even more competitive! Comparing to my old UPC TV/Internet with 200Mbps connection, I was paying 69 CHF (UPC) + 35 CHF (telereseau) each month. New subscriptions are even more expensive. Now with Salt fiber, I can get everything for 39.90 CHF because I also have a Salt mobile. I tested the speed and with an ethernet cable I get up to 700Mbps and WiFi up to 200Mbps download speeds so I cannot complain.

Re: Cancelling cable connection after getting a fibre

The "new" UPC subscriptions include the cable fee but still there are better deals out there to be had. 100Mbps is more than enough for me and my network card doesn't support faster speeds in any case.

Then you should replace your network card

Unfortunately it's built in to the laptop, which is otherwise fully up to the job.
