Salt: how to set a roaming cost limit

Hi, I'm new to Salt and have a question: how can I set a roaming cost limit? I know I get warned via SMS when I hit 90% of my allowance but I'd rather if it killed my data connection before I go over.

Re: Salt: how to set a roaming cost limit

That would be too good for you as a customer... Salt would never allow that!

You might be able to set a limit on the smart phone but the iPhone manufacturers are also complicit!

I don8217;t see how they can count how much data roaming you have done in the iPhone for example but you can8217;t set a data roaming limit.

Make sure to deactivate voice mailbox if it is not essential for you. Otherwise, when roaming abroad and someone leaves your a message, you pay for both an incoming and an outbound call at the roaming rate. It easily reaches 20.- CHF

Re: Salt: how to set a roaming cost limit

Did you go to your Salt account or created one on www.salt.ch?

There are different options in setup to choose from. Would recommend to get acquainted with their site. You can check your usage, bills and etc ..

Re: Salt: how to set a roaming cost limit

Probably no longer relevant as the new plus Europe subscription has unlimited data roaming and calls all over Europe and in the US and Canada. Now I just wish they'd support the Apple watch LTE and they'd be perfect

true but what about roaming except Europe, US and Canada?

I on salt as well and there is no option to put limit on data etc when you are in roaming. I remember just putting my salt SIM in phone at a stopover in middle east airport and within 2 seconds, I received message and might have received whatsapp chat. and I paid 49 francs for that.

Best option in roaming is to disable mobile data and keep wifi on, so wherever you go you can check for free wifi. Not sure about SMS and calls.

I prefer prepaid. Lyca mobile or Lebara have very good offers. With pre-paid you will never pay more. one of my friends has to pay CHF 500 for 150 MB data he used during roaming in Germany.

Re: Salt: how to set a roaming cost limit

I am paranoid about roaming charges, and Salt can disable all roaming on the sim cards (ask for both done if you have the extra sim deal). I have unlimited data, and don't bother with a fixed internet at all now.

many people do that in this area as the french network is stronger and often the phone will just magically flip to roaming. Can end up expensive if you don't switch it off

Re: Salt: how to set a roaming cost limit

Fixed line internet will be thing of past in the coming future. If I get full 4G on my salt the speed reaches to 120 mbps for downloading.

There is an option to switch of data in roaming in every phone, so as soon as you reach e.g. germany the data is witched off. If you would like you can switch roaming on whenever you want

That happened to me a couple of times before I had roaming disabled! It was roaming to an Orange network too. I am sure they make a small fortune from tricks like that.

Lycamobile is sooo bad.

Sometimes the roaming works, sometimes there is totally no signal during the whole stay.

Happened in Italy and Sweden.

Actually with prepay, you can still end up paying much more than your credit. I had Sunrise prepay, and just enough credit to allow some roaming. It roamed, used all my credit, then carried on, until I was 45chf negative by the time I was back in Switzerland.

I phoned Sunrise and complained like hell, but they said there is no way the system can know how much anyone has used when roaming to turn it off immediately, and that I had used this amount, and must pay it. I couldn;t use that number until I paid. As lots of job agencies contact me on that number that I had used for over 5 years, I paid up. I had no choice.

Something to bear in mind... Last month in Spain my husband had to call Iberia to rearrange a flight (since it was impossible to do it online). He has the unlimited package and so didn't think twice ringing Iberia on a Spanish number (the only one available) to get the situation sorted out after losing loads of time online.. Salt invoiced him CHF 65 for the short phone call, seems it was a special number and not included in the free call packages.. so worth remembering this only works for standard numbers.
