Swiss on-line backups.

I have been using Backblaze for last couple of years as my online backup. Worked quietly in the background. About 500GB of data.

Last week I got a notification from them that they had frozen my backup because of an error. They wanted me to check my files (all two million of them) against the backup to see if I had lost any data. I certainly couldnít see any data loss, but I certainly didnít open every file.

Next I was told to delete the backblaze program from my PC and reistall. Then I was to reattach my backup and the world would be wonderful again ...

It didnít work. Next they wanted me to download another program that would scan my PC for the error. I do not want to do this. The suggestion was that even if they found the error I probably would have to go through the upload process again, that takes weeks,

So Iíve decided to abandon them, get my money back if I can and find another provider. Although it likely will cost more, Iíd like to use a company whose servers are in this country.

So after a very long story, thank you for reading, can anyone recommend an on-line backup serive that is in this country. Iím looking for personal recommendations more than just which companies exist here.

Thanks for any help.

Native swiss cloud backup solutions are very expensive... what is your budget and data amount requirement? https://www.google.com/search?q=swis...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Re: Swiss on-line backups.

Why in Switzerland?

Encrypted AWS S3 or Azure Object Storage is probably the best
Despite the occasional Azure lapse, still by far the best compared to everyone else

My vast amount of data on S3/Glacier costs under 5 CHF per month

Re: Swiss on-line backups.

Backups are much easier to make than recoveries. It is only when you get to the stage of needing a recovery do you discover if the backup procedure was any good. A test in advance is not easy to organise either and could itself lead to loss of data. I use a local backup based on Acronis (this is no recommendation).

The data doesn't leave the country and is subject to stricter privacy laws than many other places... that matters to some people. However, it certainly comes at a cost and unless your data is really sensitive then it's something you have to weigh up the benefits of.

Re: Swiss on-line backups.

These days I just don't have the need for big backup space anymore, it's a streaming world now so no need to store music or movies, software is in app stores and available in seconds.. Really only personal documents, settings and photos/video need to be saved.

Being an Apple house it's all integrated of course, I pay 3.- per month for 200gb storage (2tb is only 10.-) .

200gb is enough for us, it's mostly photos. iPhone backups, documents.. Other stuff I don't backup - example the kids iPads/iMacs, if they mess up i just reset them.

Re: Swiss on-line backups.

Google G suite accounts offer unlimited storage. Even if you have less than 5 accounts, and they say there is a 1TB limit... there is no storage limit although there is a limit of 750Gb uploaded per day. The price is 12 euros per month
