| | Recommendations for mobile roaming in 2019?
Hello, I'm new to the forum ^^ I'm Italian, been living in Switzerland for almost 2 years now and recently moved to Lausanne.
So, when I first moved in 2017 I opted for an M-budget Mini mobile plan (19 CHF/month). Whenever I travel to Europe or somewhere else I have the option of adding some add-on data/voice packet according to the region I visit.
I was wondering if in 2019 this is the best I can do? Is there any cheap EU plan or prepaid available? It's really a shame that Switzerland is still stuck in the roaming hell!
For example, I have seen this Yallo Fat at 29 CHF/Month that looks pretty good. But It looks a bit sketchy to me, in particular I can't understand if the 29 CHF/month is just for the first few months or it is the regular tariff. Opinions?
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Yallo is good and the real deal, it's regular tariff, and more important without minimum contract duration.
But i would go for the super FAT one, because it has 1GB roaming. 200Mb is nothing.

Be very very careful with Yallow, particularly when it comes to Roaming.
When in Canada I got an SMS from them saying sign up for Roaming only CHF20 for a month.
When I got home I had a huge bill. When Queried they said that deal wasn't available in Canada, I should have read the terms and conditions ???? !!!!
Surely they knew I was in Canada.

Especially for the 10GBs per month roaming, it's amazing. I travel a lot inside europe and it's a really nice deal, compared to the 200mb Salt gives me.

It might very well go up to CHF69/month after the 12 month special offer.

Check out the new Mobile Go abos from Swisscom, I think they start at 45 chf a month and include 40GB per month roaming. I pay another 20 CHF for international calls.
Compared to the old abos, the new ones are much better value.

The UPC deal is great. I am a UPC customer and luckily I got it as a pay as you go option when it was first released at 29chf. it's now gone to a 12-month contract. I think most will agree its the best deal out there. No matter what you say, the whole deal about not calling other EU numbers etc... is the same with all networks, even in the UK. You can't suddenly call Juan on his Spanish number from your UK phone just cos you have EU roaming! Its all about the data. 29chf for unlimited Swiss and 10GB in the EU is amazing. Also, 12-month contract, like any other contract out there, can be cancelled.
Would love to see the Mobile Go Swisscom link if poss? I haven't found anything via google search and look at their website.
Edit; found swisscom. It's around 3x the price! cheapest I found is 80chf. 45chf is for only 2gb abroad.

Why not buy a dual sim phone and use it with a swiss and italian sim at the same time? Might be cheaper long term

Not true. I have Yallo SuperFat and I can call from any EU country to any EU country etc. That is what unlimited means and not some crap with a star.

Its showing up as 88chf a month or at the moment its 44chf. Also its only 1gb roaming. Whats so good about that?? https://www.yallo.ch/en/product/yallo_super_fat
Actually even the best option they have, SuperFat XL, is only 5gb roaming at 59chf a month.

You can get a decent Italian package at 15 EUR/month and with that comes EU "free" roaming, which has a few corner cases but in general it's pretty good.
The only thing you have to make sure, AFAIK, is that you need to use it in Italy every now and then and for a non-negligible amount of time, otherwise you don't qualify for EU roaming conditions (it is up to the carrier to check and decide).
(Replace "Italy" with any other EU country, this matter is now covered by EU law).
Example: Migros Mini + Vodafone Unlimited, CH + EU with 4G and very good infrastructure at around 40 CHF/month. Not bad...
Ok, even better would be having a "do whatever you want" package valid through the whole continent but that will come. I have a friend who's particularly happy with Lyca, on the other side I read many bad reviews, that's why personally I tend to stick with big operators.

Yeah, this is what I do when i spend longer than a few weeks in one place. I spend the summer mostly in Portugal so i just put in my Vodafone PT sim card. its cheaper than the Swiss one and I get more data so its better for the EU. The problem is that Switzerland isn't in the EU roaming packages that are offered so i still think that the UPC deal is the best out there for short periods of time. Incidentally, the roaming only applies to data, any EU sim card will still have the added cost of calling anyone in the foreign country you are in. For example. Portuguese sim card but im roaming in spain = extra cost. This is the same as any Swiss sim unless you have an added extra for minutes to EU numbers which then gets costly.
I had Lyca before UPC but it was 39chf for unlimited data and zero roaming. The packages werent that great and service abroad was limited to 3g not 4g.

I just got an email from UPC with the offer we were talking about. 29 CHF/month is a great deal, but after 12 months it goes up to 69. And it does not include outgoing calls from CH to EU, in my case I would need to pay an extra to call my family while here - with M-Budget landline calls are free.
I tend to agree with Jaceq, too many "stars" in the description.

Thank you very much, this is really helpful. So, it looks like Yallo might be a better option after all. I would still go for the "fat" instead of the "super fat", because I do not travel too much. Let's see.

I used to have a Yallo sim but the g/f use sit now on just pay as you go.

Well, Yallo Fat is 29 CHF/month and it has everything I need (with the caveat that I have only 200 MB traffic EU roaming, but that's enough for me). The "regular" vs "discounted" price tag (58 VS 29 CHF) is just marketing, they basically sell it at 29, period. No minimum duration.
As far as I understand, with UPC you get for the same price the equivalent of a Yallo Super Fat (which is better than the Fat), but only for the first 12 months, then goes to 69 CHF/month. So it's a no-go for me.
But everybody is different, and different people have different needs. Choose what is best for you.
To put it into perspective I did some math. I am supposed to pay 19 CHF/month with the M-Budget Mini (remember I do very limited use of internet traffic), plus the extras for roaming options when I travel. With this setup, on average I spent 35.40 CHF/month in the last two years. Going for the Yallo Super Fat and spending more would not make any sense for me. With the Fat, at 29 CHF, even if occasionally I have to add some options on top, and counting the 49 CHF of activation, I think I can stay below my current average of 35 CHF/month on the long run.
But again, YMMV.

Is this any good for you? At 19 a month it seems to include quite a lot. I tried to check the small print and the unlimited phone calls to EU seems legit. I have not tried Lebara before though but have heard good reviews. Seems a bit like Lyca. https://lebara.ch/en/product/lebara_...aprilsale_2019 |
